two words...
MUST SEE!
overall GREAT film, I now have some modeling to do, some of the ship designs were just AWESOME.
I was also surprised that there was a plot, not a half bad one at that. Acting was pretty good. only down side was they had to explain some things that were like "Well duh, I'm not stupid!"
but otherwise, VERY GOOD!

what i want more than the movie would be an xbox and a copy of "chronicles of riddick - escape from butcher bay", that game looks stunning
Chronicles of Riddick still looks worth seeing when it comes to theatres here.
more like fifth elment meets Scifi's Dune with Riddick.
it's up there with 5th element on my scifi movies now. :)
no, not like pitch black...

I was surprised that they actually made a good movie with Vin Diesel, instead of wasting him, now that he's officially the Coolest Living Badass by most standards. The script isn't the best, but all that's really required of the badass is little to no emotion except for amusement, and plenty of deadpanned one-liners; Vinny delivers...
The whole thing was a bit like Dune, what with all the court intrigue, and a bit like Pitch Black, what with Vin Diesel beating the shit out of everyone and everything in sight.
In retrospect, the background seems a bit ridiculous, but it's all represented so stylistically that it works while you're watching. The first half of the term "science fiction" was not forsaken entirely, except for the Spoiler: whole Escape from Crematoria sequence (the specific scene that comes to mind is when the sun comes up and Ms. Gender Confusion is forced to hide behind a rock, where it's apparently 600 degrees cooler than it is all of two feet away, where the rocks appear to be on fire). And unless this isn't the end, the Spoiler: Elemental woman was completely and totally pointless.
And finally... brilliant ending. Loved it. I want a sequel.
Oh, and I think Chronicals looks sick. The previews made me think "Dune" and I'm gald to hear i was right. I loved that book and thought the SciFi rendition was pretty good. (Unlike that 80s peice of trash. Ugh.)
isn't chronicals of riddick supposed to be a trilagy? I heard that before, on several ocations.
Hmm...don't think it's part of a "trilagy". Furthermore, what's a "ocation"? :D ;)
It wasn't meant to be accurate, it is an unplug your brain and have fun kind of movie. Pitch Black was to be taken more serious than this one... ;)
Spoiler: Crematoria has a lot of failed science, but it was still fun...
I loved the ending, and I especially loved the visual joke at the end of the credits...
:D
I found the movie to be very good. I wish there were more ship combat scenes.
The movie is about that gargantuan hunk of meat known as Vin Diesel beating the crap out of everyone, not space combat.
and yes, failed sciance in places, doesn't detract from the overall film. :)
*Reads a few of the negative ones*
LMAO.
"This utterly superfluous sequel is plotted with pretentious pseudo-religious conflict that makes "The Matrix" sequels look profound"
Yea, whatever... fruitcake. Seriously, the only part of the above that makes sence is the "Pseudo-religious conflict". in the form that it's a "Convert or die" senerio, which is typical for this type of film. But it's done WELL.
oh, heres another good one:
""The dense visuals are the entire story and the only reason to attend."
This person must not have been actually paying attention, sure, the visuals were very well done, but there was a plot. Visuals don't tell the story...
or another:
""Writers demonstrating such incredible lack of imagination and inventiveness should not be working in the realm of science fiction.""
Lack of imagionation? I dunno, Spoiler: the elementals were sweet. I hope we get more of them in the sequal. not to mention the prison planet, which had one very interesting setup. Most of the dialouge was pretty well done, and really, is the POINT of this kind of film for a Lord of the Rings type story line? Sheesh.
My point is Biggles, a reviewer that actually reviews a movie properly DOES NOT EXIST. 98% of them will tear anything to shreds in as un-artful a manner as possible unless they are paid off, or if it's their favorite genre. I've not found a SINGLE reviewer I've ever agreed with in local papers/online. Everyone has their own taste.
Just an example of how good the movie really is, my sister is one of the HARDEST to please. of recent movies in the past four years, the ONLY ones she liked were Shrek 1, and X-Men.
Cast Away - to full of plot holes, she hated it.
Spiderman - overall she hated it.
Hulk - ohh, she REALLY hated that one.
Gladiator - again, she hated it.
I asked her about Riddick, she said it was a Must See film. I have NEVER heard her say that. X-Men was mearly "Good".
It was very good in it's own way...
;)
As for CoR, well it has to be approached with the turn your brain off and be entertained mode, or you WILL be dissappointed...
:D
Took the family to see Harry Potter 3 for the kids birthdays... (Damn, everybody is a Gemini in my family... :p )
