This is a tad insane

It's not a heatsink/cooler. It's a fucking turbine.

LOL, if they dont hold that motherboard down it'll take off when they switch it on!

that is a beast!

Nope, someone's got the wrong idea with this one... they need to find new methods of cooling. I mean, how silent can that bastard be?

Now they just need to add afterburner to it.:D

"Oh, that's for my CPU cooler."

this is what happens when you cant make chips any smaller/denser.... you run them at cryo type temps..:)

why do you think I'm screwing with my own cooler designs !!

its also a case of geek inadequacy syndrome...

heatsink = penis size

Hmmm....

That seems a bad design for a high powered cooling system. The CPU doesn't actually touch the heatsink+fan, therefore it is a bad design. I would recommend placing a normal heatsink on it and then placing the entire motherboard in front of a large turbofan. One could then pipe air flows over the CPU, Ram, and PCI slots using ductwork from the turbofan. This would provide better cooling then the article shows. We would improve this greatly if we installed a large repulsorlift for air movement under the board to provide fresh air to the turbofan. If we then mounted ion thrusters on it and a large cockpit and installed a positronic brain we could turn the entire thing into a aero-space fighter. This would greatly improve the overall usefulness of the system. Of course, by this point the original motherboard is no longer needed so we might as well remove this leaving the important parts of the Turbofan, Repulsorlift, Ion thruster, Positronic brain, and Cockpit.

:D
• Or you could turn it into a remote-control hovercraft and attack people's chairs during LANs.

Is name "heatpipe" familiar?

I'm waiting for someone to get a dual chip rig with a couple of those and paint the case with a "Top Gun" scheme. :D

Here's one better method: http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99994816

Probably only five years from now...

Y'know, looking at that jet engine design... I don't think that thing wouldn't even fit in my case.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I'm fairly certain it won't fit in mine. It certainly wouldn't be able to get enough air through it to prevent a horrible whining noise.
• I don't think you could buy a case that big... I know a few people with monster cases, but that's just insane. Then again, I suppose you'd have to leave the side off, or all the air being sucked into your case would inflate it like a balloon... :p

That doesn't really solve this excess heat problem, it just make computers more better heaters.

And they have been pretty silent about it after they told it's "all-powerfull".
Like this month's number of one finnish PC magazines sayd:
Wanted: BTX-case and motherboard. Last seen at October 2003 in Intel Developer Forum in San Jose, never on market.

They were at Comdex. Just not very much. Basically, they're coming, only a lot slower than anticipated.
