Mythbusters on the Discovery channel already did a thing on the exploding CD's, and even a 52x drive won't do it, a router will tho....

I think it depend on pretty much CD.
Is it balanced and other things like that, also these factory made CDs can have that sticker on upper side.
Some years ago I tried with my friend using using those demoCD wich come with some magazines as bb gun targets.
You could literally shoot them to full of holes (well over ten shots) before they breaked.
After that we tried with some useless old CD-Rs and those can withstand maybe one or two shots but after that they literally explode to pieces.

well all i know is that these guys tested dozens of CD's, off balance, different brands, labeled, not labled, and not a single one of them shattered in a drive, they only shattered when hooked up to an industrial router.

Well, I know someone who have experience about CD breaking inside CD-ROM drive.
They had to disassemble whole drive to get pieces out of it.

Thats because they were stupid and used the wrong speed drives and used a slow ass POS computer.
It was a 72x drive that started this, and it ended up stopping with as slow as 56x drives. It MAY happen with 52x drives if you use really cheap CDs and they're pretty banged up.
On that particular episode of Mythbusters, the drive never even got close to 52x.
