that actually looks like a researched and genuine model... what is the arrangement on the back ? it looks like some sort of cap and nipple firing arrangement... what is it ?

and... wow... a walnut burl gun carriage... how snobby..:D

it should be oak !! :D

I like the real thing better... Although grats on your new speed Jack :)

Ive actually fired one like that in real life. I was the guy with the stick. And the one behind the cannon, firing it as well...

To be honest SB, this was a contest entry over at LWG. I used it as a test render because it was causing me some render time on my old PII 450 Mhz machine.

I had done absolutely NO research on how it SHOULD look... I simply surfaced and textured by the seat of my pants. I just thought it should look like this, and then entered it into the contest.

Not very many people voted on it (11), as compared to other entries, so I don't know if I made a good shot at it (no pun intended).

I think the real problem was the lighting I had originally used for the entry was too dark.

The model was provided at the start of the contest, so I had nothing to do with nor do I know of it's original origin.

Remember that this was a texture contest, so not everyone goes for realism... :p

hmm...what would happen if someone entered a lightwave contest using a different program, such as blender, and won? :D

You could get away with it for a while until you won... :p

Cause then you'd have to submit your object and textures etc. Besides, I think that some people could tell the differences in the render engines up front...

You'd have to find a way to convert the LW object file into your own native format.

    ;)

I specialize in conversions. and with Yafray, and the new raytracer / ambient occlusion, a GOOD (ala not me) blender user could make it looks perfect. :D

Bummer on the submitting the work though. :(

When I saw that earlier, the only thing I could think of was "How's Drongo going to turn that into a maglite?" Though, he did maglite-ize an apple...

Though, I can't wait to see your entry, Jack!

I wasnt having a go at ya dude... I just know my wood...:) and I also know a little about making stuff in timber... burl like that will break as soon as look at it... all that swirly pattern is the grain, and its usually so flawed and screwed up in has no strength, it just looks pretty...it needs to be nice straight grain stuff, and a hardwood like Oak for a gun carriage. I doubt your judges can pick a type of timber at 10 paces anyways.

    your work is Ubah..:)

    Heh, I have some ideas...

I don't think my entry will go in till the very last moment this time though...

Got to hunt down some Ancient Asian Helmet references...
