Ive actually fired one like that in real life. I was the guy with the stick. And the one behind the cannon, firing it as well...
that actually looks like a researched and genuine model... what is the arrangement on the back ? it looks like some sort of cap and nipple firing arrangement... what is it ?

To be honest SB, this was a contest entry over at LWG. I used it as a test render because it was causing me some render time on my old PII 450 Mhz machine.
I had done absolutely NO research on how it SHOULD look... I simply surfaced and textured by the seat of my pants. I just thought it should look like this, and then entered it into the contest.
Not very many people voted on it (11), as compared to other entries, so I don't know if I made a good shot at it (no pun intended).
I think the real problem was the lighting I had originally used for the entry was too dark.
The model was provided at the start of the contest, so I had nothing to do with nor do I know of it's original origin.
Remember that this was a texture contest, so not everyone goes for realism... :p

hmm...what would happen if someone entered a lightwave contest using a different program, such as blender, and won? :D
You could get away with it for a while until you won... :p
Cause then you'd have to submit your object and textures etc. Besides, I think that some people could tell the differences in the render engines up front...
You'd have to find a way to convert the LW object file into your own native format.
;)
Bummer on the submitting the work though. :(

When I saw that earlier, the only thing I could think of was "How's Drongo going to turn that into a maglite?" Though, he did maglite-ize an apple...
Though, I can't wait to see your entry, Jack!
