And because for a country that has had its derrier saved on more than one occasion, they are less than gratefull.

You'll have to register an Ezboard account then Laird should clear you, a measure that had to be taken due to Shakkara making a nuisance of itself.

There's a difference between judging a nation and ridiculing it endlessly for fun.
Oh, and all the other stuff people said.
Simmonds, is Spacebattles down,
Why does it matter? It's better if it is. ;)
Probably because for a country that never wants to fight in a war, they sure build a lot of weapons and sell them to countries that want to go to war WITH US. For example, reference the French made Excoset missile vs. British Forces in Falkland Wars. Or, (insert just about everything they make) vs. Coalition Forces in Desert Storm episode I: War for oil (oh yeah and the freedom of that little country too.

I see now, Did'nt the US sell weapons to Iraq in the early 80s during to Iran- Iraq War?
yes. but we WIN wars. ;)
...and for anyone who says we lost during the Vietnam Conflict, I urge them to reread their history books.
Strategically and tactically speaking, the United States won every major conflict during this time. They were able to cut the supply lines, disrupt reinforcements, and conquer the skies. However, due to the politics in nature at the time, it was an unpopular war.
The United States did NOT retreat. We negotiated a peace treaty with North Vietnam that ended hostilities and allowed us to withdraw. However, North Vietnam took advantage of a war torn South Vietnam and invaded again which broke the peace treaty.
Nothing short of a full scale intervention from the United States would have stopped the North.

Wasn't the amount we sold insanely miniscule compared to the amount of weapons sold to them by the French and Russians? There was a chart somewhere. Or am I thinking of money we gave them? Either way it was funny.

1812???
1812???
What about the War of 1812? Yes, we fought the British again not even 40 years after independence had been won. Yes, they burned our capitol, but the war ended pretty much in a stalemate.
We fought the British one on one (without France's help this time). The United States did not have the troop numbers to take over Canada (which belonged to the British) at the time. The U.S. Navy was superior in most naval engagements with the British Royal Navy. The British Army was halted in their invasion of the United States. Like I said....a stalemate.
The War of 1812 pretty much guaranteed complete sovereignty and Independence from Britain. It showed that the United States was a unified country and that our "unorthodox" government wasn't weak as many foreigners had thought.
The Treaty of Ghent basically established "pre-war" conditions between the United States and Britain. It's purpose was to end hostilities between the two countries and to setup proper diplomatic ties of friendship, etc.
Make no mistake though...the United States came out looking a LOT better than Britain. It was an emotional blow to Britain's pride and to their "stature" in the world (essentially world opinion). Also, it force the British to recognize the United State's rights of both Louisiana and parts of Florida.
Just a reminder for anyone who reads what I typed...the British were also fighting France again during this time. However, the majority of the troops and ships sent to the United States were already battle tested against Napoleon's forces in Europe.

Yes, the United States did sell weapons for a short time to Iraq. However, this was BEFORE he started killing thousands of innocent people.
The world was a different place back then. The Cold War was still in full swing and the United States did NOT want the Russians supplying Iraq with weapons. Also, remember the hostage crisis in Iran during the same time frame? There were a lot of things happening and it was all VERY political in nature.
Now, what type of weapons were we selling? Handguns, assault rifles, etc.? We were NOT selling Iraq heavy weapons or tanks unlike the Russians (or Soviets at the time). There were various reports of the U.S. selling "chemical weapons", but there is no concrete evidence stating the the small shipments of bacteria, etc. shipped to the Higher Education Ministry were used in chemical warfare or that the United States knew it was going to be used for such activites.
People can talk, give their opinions on the matter, etc., but there is NO evidence that can support these claims.

I'm not saying there were no US weapons systems in the hands of Iraq, but look at it.
The Airforce is (or was) made up of largely Russian designs and French designs like the Mirage F1, there were some Chinese as well.
The Armoured forces were for the most part Russian T-55's, and a smaller number of T-72's. Some Chinese Type 59's and Type 69's were also evident. Lighter armoured vehicles were for the most part of the BTR, BMP and BRDM series, although some Brazilian designs were also around.

*cough*Guy Gross*cough*
Not only did the United States help Saddam into power and fund his regime in the late 70's early 80's the money we gave him was invested at our advice and he later used it to buy weapons from the Soviets and the French. How ironic is that?
And after a while, we cut him off, which is probably why he got all pissy with us.
And yes, you can also say that the reason that Osamma bin ladin is pissed at us is because we invaded Iraq and stopped them from taking over Kuwait, a country he believed was currupted by oil czars that had more money than he did.
That would be bombing holy ground...
Like that'll stop him from doing it and passing the blame onto someone else....
