Virus -Eros -1?

Been having trouble with a virus of some sort that keeps disconnetcing me cos I click of the pop up called Eros. Is one of those naughty sites lol. Anyway its somehow embedded in one of my files. B/F's ran the AVG virus (more techno minded than me) but that won't work properly, I think its corrupted it?! Can't update it for some reason.
Any other virus checker thing that could get rid of it?! Its not major, more annoying than anything else. But well.......you may have heard of Eros and know what to do.
:)

This statement alone tells me you are using an out of date program piece of crap to surf the web rather than one of the real web browsers. Either that or you haven't set one of them up properly. :)

Not necessarily Biggles. Ad ware sometimes makes popups launched from an external program rather then a website.

Run also SpyBot.

Check also if it's this:

Especially because this:
C:\"Windows System folder"\EROS.EXE
• I use Spy Sweeper, though I don't get much adware.
• heh...I'm always amazed at what just adaware picks up...stuff I never knew was there... :D

also, try AVG. it's a freeware Anti-Virus that gets very high ratings from people that use it.

(Not version 7, the free edition at the side)
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
MartianDust already stated the use of AVG :D
• DOH!!!

I just found out about it from the UT2k4 forums and thought it might help out....

oops. :D

You'll note she said:

So it was from a site from the sounds of things.
• but the "keep" says that it's being launched by a program.

unless some site has dirty popups that she visits repeatedly..

either way, adaware, spybot, and Firefox solve all problems. :D

Thanks for your help. Ok well already tried Spybot, no luck.

Funny but I've not been having any probs though I daresay it exists somewhere. Not sure what b/f did in the end!

ET will check out that link tomorrow. :)

Lol as for naughty sites who me????! Nope never opened this,it just turned up, don't know where from. But yeah is a site. Came up with the actual page the other day but didn't go into it. You never know, it may have ate into my hard drive if I had.
Still need to run Adaware too. :)

Other very good free program is Avast:

Also use Run-command and type regedit.
Search this "address" and tell what you find from there:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Also check those other keys with names which start with word "run".

Thanks ET. I still not had a chance to look into it all yet. Would've done tonight but no luck. Will do when I can though.
Got Trojan to deal with as well but found a page which gives good instructions to deal with it. Least its not spreading.

Bit of a long shot but go here, download then run the CWShredder utility.

I had a friend who has a similar problem, and this sorted it out.
• this one might be a tad silly, but you never know..

Start --> Run --> "Msconfig"

in the window that pops up, look for the startup tab

see if anything unusual is set to auto start.
