Art

Well I thought it would be best to put stuff here and not the art forum. I've only just recently picked up a paintbrush. Its what I done the past few wks from my eve class and I'd love to have your opinions and critizisms (however you spell it) . I won't mind!

:)

I like your domain name. The paintings arent bad either ;)

Actually they look very nice. You got a lot of contrast going on most of them (Aaaagh tooo white, hurts my eyes!!), except the first that just puts me in a summery mood for some reason, looks alot like Greece.

it's well accepted here in the states that mascular phrases can apply to both sexes in slang.

ex: Walk to a group of friends, male and female, "Hey guys, whats up?"

etc. :D
• among a mixed group, yes, and perhaps even a group of women would be referred to as 'hey guys'...but personally, and as most of the people I know are concerned, none of us would refer to a single female in the masculine...

...not that that's important, but must defend my own position to avoid any stereotypes that might be placed on Americans on the whole;)
• C_MonC_Mon A Genuine Sucker
I would say "Hey guys and gals, what's up?"
• A2597A2597 Fanboy
I've never, in my entire life, heard a guy say "Hey girl, -STATEMENT-" I've heard Hey man, hi, hello, whats up, hi -name-, etc...

pointless discussion and OT anyway. (Of course...has any topic at 1st1s stayed ON topic? ;)

Nice man! is an exclaimation.
Nice girl! or Nice woman! is...not the same exclaimation ;)

Anyways (which isn't a word :p), nice pictures! They somewhat remind me of the Group of Seven if you've heard of their work.

I can't say to my friends "Hejsan grabbar" if there are women in the group, then I say "Hejsan pojkar och flickor".

Is finish a language with a gender non-specific singular pronoun? I always wanted one of those... My teachers don't let me use they...and he/she is awkward...and using either he or she sometimes doesn't convey what I want to say...

Vote thay for gender non-specific pronoun in 2004! :D

• C_MonC_Mon A Genuine Sucker
In finnish "hän" means he/she. In swedish han=he and hon=she.
• A2597A2597 Fanboy
so THATS where hon comes from!

(Pronounced hun here in the states, used as a short for honey when refering to sanifigent other)
• eh...difference in regions of the country I suppose eh? (like 'soda', 'pop', and 'coke')

I use 'hey girl' with my friends who are women quite often...as do they

I wasn't necessarily implying I was right, or anyone else was wrong...just sayin that the use of masculine nouns isn't really universal to all regions ;)

Not tryin to be malicious, so please don't take my statements personally (unless I say they are personal!!;) )
• to me, saying 'hey girl' sounds like something I might say to a girlfriend, not just a random girl. I
• eh...must be a midwest Missouri/Texas thing (I hear it frequently both places)

In either case, at this point I yield. Look to hear from me on thie matter no more (unless I decided to start a poll!!...just kiddin;))
• Indeed, it sounds like something I might say in a false Southern accent. :p

Well now I wasn't asking what you thought of my domain name tehehehe! ;)

It could be Greece, not sure. Tutor gave me pic to finish off at home was taken from a calendar. Another pic of a door had this old lady and she did look greek. :)

No I don't know them. Are there any links?! :)

As for the man/guy thing. It is heard of here. I often say guys here in this forum when I mean girls too. Some women don't like being called girls but would rather be called women/lady. But I think girl sounds... well young sounding and playful. :)

Hey thanks for your replies btw, I was expecting some critizisms too heh. :)

The Group of Seven was a famous group of Canadian Painters. You can see some of their artwork here. Just ignore the fact that there are more than seven painters listed ;) The original group was seven, but it expanded and changed over time. "Group of Seven" more refers to the style. For those of you who don't want to go through the whole gallery, here are some highlights that I thought were similar to MartianDust's:

Similar I think! Don't think I posted the exact pic I painted, but close enough. You observe well........young Jedi tehehehe!!
Had to add that cos of that photo you did. ;)

Thanks alot Phi! I looked at the 3 links and will look at the rest of the site later.
Its surprising that if its 7 painters that they all have the same type of style. They're not related are they? Anyway will look soon. :)

Very nice paintings and you show some definite promise but I think despite the last painting that you might be using too warm colours. :) Try to use a bit colder shades and you'll get it just right IMHO.
• MartianDustMartianDust Elite Ranger
Thanks for the compliment! :)

Funny cos that last one I copied the exact colours from a painting and not photo!
Guess I shouldn't always copy an artist, though that was the only one so far.
But yeah.......I will bear that in mind, thanks. :)

Ohh...the new guy. :D
You'll learn how things go around here eventually...the wonderful thing about firstones, no one is ever 100% serious, and what happens in one topic STAYS in that topic.

(Unless it's humerous and catches one...)

hehehe personally hehehe
