That picture of the earth and the moon from the Global Surveyer is...beautiful. It's not clear, but the details can just barely be made out...

That one on the SETI page, the last line there...

"... the only home we've ever known."

I wonder...

...if somewhere in the vieled ancient past of pre-history, we were introduced to this place from somewhere else...

That's because it's an Earth-based production, and we like being the heroes. :)

Which picture is the actual scale of earth from Mars? Is it the first one? Looks tiny tiny! Smaller than Mars did last yr when it was closest to Earth.

I know, its a weird feeling I get with looking back at us. Makes my stomach go funny almost. :)
There was a pic of a Martian Sunset, that made me feel funny too.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
The first one can give you an idea of scale, thanks to the horizon. It would look smaller than Mars did last year since the two planets are actually quite far apart now.

Correct. Jack was obviously referring to Battlestar Galactica. ;) (The original of course since the re-make is a bastardized version and isn't worthy of the name.)

I don't s'pose any pics were taken from Mars of Earth when the two planets were at their closest? :)
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
There weren't any live landers there at the time. In fact, at the time there were three landers about half way there.
• MartianDustMartianDust Elite Ranger
You think they would've thought all this out and got them there sooner hehe. Oh well. :)
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I think short travel time was more important. :)
