Yeah, but look at the release date...11 March 2002... maybe these are different from the Region 1 DVD.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
They could be. But I doubt it.

They dont give many details on the amazon.co.uk website, but I cant see how they'll be any different from the region 1 double set.

As a conversion guide:
Region 1 (US) cost is equivalent to about £10.72
and Region 2 (UK) equals £37.98

This country didnt get the reputation "rip-off britain" for nothing you know. Im going to email amazon.co.uk in the search for answers, then maybe a consumer watchdog TV show...

Oh yeah, and the international shipping from the USA to the UK cost about £1.30 more than shipping within the UK.

No customs charges are applicable, as the DVDs cost less than £18 - buying them abroad.

I cant wait to hear their excuse....

Welcome to the wonderful world of region encoded DVDs.

Oh, and of course shipping from the US to the UK is 2 bucks more. That's a long way to swim.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Sounds like it would be worth investing in a region-free DVD player/drive if DVDs cost that much in the UK.

Dear Eamon,

Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.co.uk with your enquiry.

You will notice that there is some crossover between the Amazon
catalogues, some items being available for order at more than one of
the Web sites.

At Amazon it is our goal to offer you the best selection at the best
prices, regardless of where you live. However, copyright law prohibits
the selling of foreign editions when a local publisher has acquired the
rights to that item. This is why you may find that some titles are listed
on one Amazon site at a different price than at another.

When it is possible, it is our policy to offer you the least expensive of
available editions, but the cost of importing an item can increase its
price slightly.

You should also take into consideration the cost and time of delivery when
you compare item prices. If you live in Europe or the U.K., you will
probably want to check Amazon.co.uk first, as the cost of the order
including delivery will generally be the most convenient and least
expensive for you.

There may be some cases, due to fluctuations in availability or exchange
rates, where it will be better to make your order at one of the other
Amazon sites. For this reason, we would encourage you to continue to
shop and compare between the two sites and choose the combination of
speed, price and availability that best suits your needs.

Please remember that orders placed on one Amazon site will be processed
independently of any orders you may have placed on another Amazon site. We
cannot consolidate orders across the different sites.

We hope this has been informative to you, please let us know if you
have any further questions.

Warmest regards,

Vanidhar Atreya

Highly uninformative in many respects, but helpful nonetheless. Yes a region free DVD player is an excellent idea.

Does anyone remember if the B5 DVD has that RCE whatever that stops you using it in region-free?

It does. This will effect it's ability to play on region free DVD players. However, if you get a region free DVD-ROM drive you will have no problems whatsoever.

I find the best place to get good value dvd's is www.play247.com I've bought, La Confidential, Any Given Sunday, Transformers the Movie (Yeah baby!!!), American Beauty, and Blade Runner Directors Cut off them, and all cost around £7.99, except Transformers, which was £11.99, but even still that was an excellent price. Rip off high street places will charge you £19.99 straight up. All those I've bought are region 2. Once my house mate moves out, and takes his dvd player, I'll be on the hunt for a region free one.

Ahh. My life regains meaning.

Nice one Falcon. I can get B5 DVD (region 1) in europe for £13.99 - its actually the same as from US + shipping.
• OK Now you've lost me.....
I knew that DVD's are Regional..
but to my understanding Multi-regional DVDPlayers helped you get over the Reg' 1,2,3 problem.
Now you all come up with this 'RCE'..wot the heck is that!
(those money grabing publishers forcing our hand or what?)
.....
I ask this Question because i am about to buy a Multi-regional DVD-Plyr.....?Now i dont know?
• eamonmcaeamonmca Earthforce Officer
RCE (cant remember what it stands for) means a DVD wont play in a multi-region player.

I think multi region DVD-ROM drives get round it - but Im not sure.

Someone get some technical boffins on this one...
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
As I said earlier, yes they do get around it.

Region Code Enhancement. And with some multi-region players you CAN play them. Some players you can also modify so that they can play RCE disks.

- PJH
• RCE disks are coded to stop them playing on DVD players set to Region 0 (no region ID) which many budget players use. But if you have a player that can actually select the region needed then you will have no problems whatsoever.

The Sampo models and their clones are excellent for this and cheap too. Check here for some info http://www.area450.com/
