Meh, there's really only 2-3 levels where you see those in large numbers, Mostly you'll still be going up against Mercs with a few mutants thrown in for good measure.
A very interesting game. The graphics are stunning, the AI is very smart, and the action is impressive. The moving leaves and grasses make finding your enemy a lot harder than the older games with static scenery.
The fact that you can only carry 4 weapons at a time adds another dimension to the game as well. Is it worth keeping the rocket launcher or should you grab an extra SMG? What do you give up so you can keep the machete, IF you want to keep it....
The ability to move boxes and barrels, cut chains, and otherwise manipulate the environment makes things very interesting.
The vehicles are fun to handle, and sometimes it's easier to kill your enemies by running them down then by shooting them.
my FPS nerve has been stimulated so much by the countles FPS stuff out there I'm totally numb to a new one...
Even the long awaited Deus-X 2 isnt giving me the metaphorical erection I expected.
its totally done to death...
...until we get proper immersive VR systems... its always going to suck...
you can't buy me with slightly cleverer bots and some eye candy, (and even that in itself is boring...not to mention expensive when you have to upgrade your VPU every Tuesday to keep up with some new fangled LOD/sexy shader ).
Screw that shite...
RubberEagleWhat's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?

That would be really "must" for flight sims also.

It was a shooter. And it was awesome. I'm still playing that game over and over again... the story is actually pretty good, if overdramatic, and they use the physics engine for some pretty inventive stuff. In one of the first levels, there's a forklift with two long boards, and a bunch of barrels on top of that. If you step on the right side of the board, the barrels come falling at you, hit a box, and cause the other end of the board to stick up. Climbing up it, you can get a shotgun and some painkillers. :p
Far Cry... I annoyed my parents by not buying any souvenirs in Arizona, and instead buying UT2K4 and Far Cry a week before vacation. So much fun... On the mission on the carrier, when you need to get the boat down. I couldn't defeat all the guys on the top, so I jumped off the side, and shot the chains holding the raft up... I had one of SB's 'metaphorical erections' at that point. :p
I believe using Deus Ex 2 as a mode of comparison to FarCry is a capital offense in most civilized nations.
SB: I can't believe you actually played it, if that's your opinion. The AI is orders of magnatude better than any game out there, namely, it uses cover, knows how to flank, and works as a team, especially at the higher difficulty levels.

You can set the difficulty to "Reality" which means it's as easy to get killed as it is to kill. You're also fighting mercs who speak with american accents as well, so it's not a "Rambo kill all the brown/yellow people" type game.
There is only one thing keeping this a 3-star game instead of a 4: Checkpoints.
In this modern age of computing, there is absolutely no need to make the saves based on checkpoints. I hate that!

Besides, Far Cry isn't just a shooter... there's a lot of stealth in the outdoor environments, and a lot of getting scared shitless in the indoor environments... Spoiler: I always underestimate the jumping capabilities of the friggin' Trigens...

No, no, it's much easier to get killed than to kill others.
Start shooting from too far with low visibility and without checking places with binocular and when you shoot one others hide to bushes and behind trees.
Get too close and they'll start throwing you with hand grenades.
And don't shoot them from too easy place, otherwise someone will come to shoot you to back. (always double check six a'clock)
I agree about those checkpoints. (are they going to jam this to consoles?)
Outside landscapes are absolutely best I've ever seen in games. Amount of detail is very high. (though this game would definitely require putting another 512 MB to my PC) Also water looks much more water than in other games.
I think this game won't be converted for consoles at least in next couple year. :D
Or they'll have to rape graphic engine completely to jam this to consoles' small memories.

(This isn't really spoiler info...more general knowledge at this point)
the first few times that you encounter them are.. memorable

You can make new pathways, or use the container or crate to crush some enemies :)
actually, I'm in total video game withdrawl at the moment...all work and no play make A% a dull boy and all that... *sigh*

That's 'cause it sucks compared to the original.
Farcry however looks really nice.
examples of recent GOOD FPS include only Max Payne 2, UT2004, and Far Cry.
hopefully, I can add HL2 to this list. (I expect Doom3 to utterly stink BTW)
Funny, my Max Payne 2 was third person action :p

(Also, I was talking about Max Payne 2, not Deus Ex 2)

in conclusion, screw you, simmonds.
at least there is some truth behind it. As it is one against a thousand. :) Though the thousand don't have save points. :D MUAHAHA!!!
I guess I was wrong about that on farcry.

I wonder how long it would take for me to get banned if I told Why to screw off. Like I did to Curz on IRC.
