W00T!!! I love you guys. =) (Some rated R content)

Bet you thought that this thread would contain something very dubious if you looked at the title... ;)

I got meself' a subtag! Thanks mates, although I guess I should thank mostly Biggles for that. :)

And to thank ye' all and show that I just might be worth the tag... well, Christmas came early for me too today after a day of hard work trying to find a place that could scan the bugger in and then to smoothen the whole pic out. ;)

100% pencils (Rexel Derwent Studio, if you're interested), although I used me' comp' to edit out the dust, prints and garbage that got scanned in with the piece. The place I found sure did deliver, but you'd think that they'd have the brains to wipe the scanner before actually using it. ;)

Anyways, thanks again. :D

    cool. looks dark and creepy

    Hmm...

well.. There's some things about the anatomy that don't seem that good to me (true, havent seen for myself yet irl, but have some 10+ gigabytes of pornographic pictures of very naked girls on my hd so I know what I'm talking about, a bit).

Like the "hybrid" feeling in the pic. The art actually reminds me of some nice .. well.. okay. Not so nice pictures that mixed machines and women in.. if you know me, you can picture it.

But still. Basically, it has a nice feeling to it, and I shouldn't criticise due to not even being able to make a stick figure these days.

    man that looks awsome!:)

Impressive detail! And the mix of themes works well. Though in a disturbing way. The angel wings and halo that you see from a distance, and the skull that I didn't even see until I looked closer. And the butterfly. The light flare off the eye on the side I really like.

As Refa said, the body proportions do apear slightly strange, but that's the only criticism I can think of.

I wish I could see the original, my moniter isn't big enough to see more than a quarter at a time in detail...Out of curiosity how big is an A2 piece of paper?

We use the metric system here so it adds up to 65 x 50 centimetres. Actually... that's a bit more than an A2. Take 2 normal printer paper sheets side by side, and you get an A3. Put 4 sheets next to each other and you get and A2. Add some odd distance to all directions and you get the sheet I drew on. 'Pretty darn too big' came to mind a few times when I coloured the larger surfaces. :p

And if you happen to use IE like me (for some reason I can't think of right now) you can update the IE to the current version to make images that don't fit on the screen to shrink to size. It sucks but it works too. x) Maybe I could do a smaller sized pic for an outlook? Hmm... hang tight. Here.

And the mixing of the themes is in fact intentional. There are two very different themes in this, simply because this is a blend-in work of two different scetches I made during and after my time in the Defence Forces. The other was full of agony and hopelessness for the negative side and the other signified sheer joy and hope, although it took place in a graveyard. ;) I just thought about combining the two of those to create something of a "Battlefield Flesh" scenario, or the two sides of the human personality. I drew up a scetch and found out that it worked even better than I had hoped for and decided to go for it. If you want some mood to the background, you can look for 2 songs that pretty much sum all the feelings this poster represents to me. The first is "Viivakoodit" by Apulanta (A bit tricky one if you're not a Finn) for the negative side and the other is "Kiss From A Rose" by Seal for the positive side. Still to me the one single most beautiful piece of music ever written. Feelings of stress, hatred, agony and despair combine with deep shades of love to say a final farewell to a string of emotions... hence "Godspeed".

And actually it's not a light flaring off the eye: It's a targeting reticle if you look close enough. It focuses and circles around the pupil of the right eye and flares off to the same level as the right eye of the gal in the actual right hand side of the poster. And the main idea behind this -which most find damn hard to see without proper guidance- (for me too, now, actually) is that it's a blue christian cross on a cubic box of white outline. And a blue cross on a box of white is... ?

Oh yeah, one more thing which ís a fun thing for me to mention. Look at the machine. It's made out of five distinct limblike membranes. The lowest limb which houses the bloodtanks is in a different angle when compared to the other 4. Think of the lowest limb to be a thumb. What do you see? The machine is spread out a bit too much for it to represent it but that was one of the main ideas behind it being made to look that way. I find it damn hard to see it as a hand nowadays but some people spot it right off as a dark hand as the first thing they see about it. Funny.

And yes, the proportions of the body didn't really work out for me either, I'd done quite a big portion of the work when I figured that it just didn't look 'right' and changed the original. And she's still too tall. :) Or it could just be that the body actually is pretty much allright but I just didn't know what I was doing anymore when I coloured it. I'm one of those romantic types that draw just to be able to colour the pieces later on. :p I try to think when I draw, and when it comes to colourin it's all emotion. The colouring stage can decide a shitload with different pieces, and when I don't think anymore when I colour it tends to raise som problems. :D

But anyways, it's pretty funny that you see a halo and a set of wings... but as said, it's what you see. ;) It is intentional but... a surgery light and a set of tubing from the walls, anyone? ;)

There is actually quite a lot of symbolism embedded there if you look hard enough and like to think in a crooked way. Although the thing is that you'd probably have to be me to get most of the stuff in it. This is actually darn personal piece of work now that I think of it but I'm not going to explain any of it, that's the beauty of stuff like this. There aren't things like a right or a wrong explanation to a piece, if it stirs something in you and gives you something to think about, then it's fulfilled its purpose and all the things that you think this is about are as 'right' as my interpretations of it. ;)

I still think I need to do a 'seabed' wallpaper out of this one too... when I have the time.

And for that again: Thanks. :) I tried to delete the previous thread but for some reason or another, the board didn't let me do it. :p

Ooh, post number 1666. x) Gotta get rid of that fast. :D
