SETI@Home data
Bekenn
Sinclair's Duck
in Zocalo v2.0
http://setiathome2.ssl.berkeley.edu/newsletters/rescore/gb_rescored.html
Explanation from the guy who sent it to me....
The probability of SAHGb02+14a having noise as the basis of its signal dropped
from 1.3099e-09 to 8.75585893341845e-19 upon reobservation.
In other words, when SETI looked directly at that star (instead of just passing
by it with the telescope) the statistics improved from an awesome score to a
mind-boggling high score.
This is very good news. SETI says that even if it finds proof positive of
extra-terrestrial life that it will continue to analyze the other half of its
data. I think those boys are getting excited and so should we.

First, what are Barycentric Gaussians?
Second do we know what star it is and its distance from earth?
Finally, what do they look for in the signal, just strength or certain patterns?
Jake
Worf
non-barycentric = wide band frequency window
i.e. barycentric is when you concentrate on fewer frequencies.
Where is it?
On the sky:
Right ascension: 2 hours
Declination: 14 degrees
Now what they look for:
Spikes: radio waves that differ enough in strength from the surrounding noise
Gaussian: If the noise fits on a radion wave i.e. curve
Pulses: Repeating spikes
Triplets: Three pulses equally spaces from each other, either from the same frequency, or from differing frequencies equally spaced from each other
Still, I'd think the presence of SETI in there would trigger more clicks.
Oh, well.
Cactus head ?
Havent seen or heard of him in eons.
How far away is this signal source ? Any chance of setting up a chat session ? :D
A friend of mine, an engineer living in Utah. Met him at a Weird Al concert in LA. He's an avid fan of the SETI@Home project; I imagine he was just browsing through the list of top candidates when he saw that entry and flipped. I would be very surprised to hear he had ever been referred to as Cactus Head. And I don't think he's ever been to this board, given that I only just started him on B5 a few months ago.
I'll ask him about the distance.

At least someone are still active.
Well, I would have little over 1200 results, but I'm currently already member of one group:

Though there was one interesting one that would put little pin marks on a star map you could see where all the signals you've decoded came from.

And I always thought it had something to do with Extra Terrestrials. That'll teach me to make assumptions. At least I never mentioned it and made a fool of myself.
That reminds me I was going to download SETI@Home for my computer... What addons to people reccomend?
I use Seti Monitor for caching WUs.

Also this is pretty nice for getting statistics.

Sorry to disappoint you.
I just picked this because it fitted so well to my name.
Well, at least my first name is nice! (if name doesn't ring the bell, maybe this helps: "nice site"
And it was nice to have own name in suit. (nice suit, or what you think? :D)
BTW, If anyone of you have telescope, Saturn's rings shows very nicely now, also you can see planet's shadow on them. (You'll find Saturn from Gemini, to upper left from Orion and Betelgeuze)
I had almost forgotten what it feels when there's only -5 celsius and you don't need to wear your whole wardrobe to keep warm.

Please note that SETI@home does not release detailed candidate coordinates
until candidates have been reobserved with sufficient sensitivity to
definitively confirm or reject the candidate.
