Hires Video Input on Vid Capture Card

BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I have one of these Leadtek Winfast TV 2000XP cards. The card itself is very nice, but unfortunately the software that comes with it doesn't seem to be able to handle higher video input resolutions than about 320x240 or somewhere around there. I find this most annoying as my PS2 will quite happily spit out higher resolution images over the s-video cable to the capture card and I'm fairly sure that the card is capable of the same resolution.

So, anyone know either of some decent free software that will work with said vid capture card and be able to display the higher resolution data rather than sub-sampling it and making it blurry, or how to make the software that came with this thing show hi-res images?

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good PS2 -> VGA device that isn't too expensive?

I got the same problem. I got s-video in/out on my GeForce4 card, but the software I got won't show fullscreen. If I got it somehow to show fullscreen I could use my vhs to recive TV channels and then through s-video show it in my computer. :)

Biggles, I have the same card and I can capture at 640x480 with no problems. Doesn't matter what input I use. (currently using s-video) I'm using the PVR software right off the CD to capture video.

Yes, but I don't want to watch videos of me running around in my PS2 games, I want to play them in hires. Capturing isn't a problem, it's displaying in real time.

Dude, the only time I've noticed video that small is when you hit stop for the first time after recording something. It plays what you captured in the large window while displaying current content in a smaller window. When you hit stop again, the current content enlarges to fill the whole window. Other than that, it displays at 640x480 everytime.

Forget captured content. Captured content is irrelevant. There is no captured content. The problem is that playback of real time video is at a resolution of 320x240. Sure, you can resize the window, but it just resamples the 320x240 data to fill the window. If you choose the optimal video mode, you get smoothed video data (ie blurry), the other modes just look progressively more pixelated. But the base resolution for displaying real time video is always 320x240.

I'm just curious how you came to that conclusion.

I've looked at the video I've captured and it has no signs of being scaled up.

Yes. Captured. I'm not talking about captured data, I'm talking about data displayed on the screen in front of my eyes as it's received. The actual display on the screen won't show data above 320x240.

How manytimes do Biggles have to tell you, he's not talking about captured data. :)

Problem solved. Turns out the latest version of the software (which Vert has) runs at 640x480.

    ;)

C_MON: If you knew how the software worked, then you'd understand my posts. :)

Actually, I think I told you. It was me who realised it might be version differences. :D

I wouldn't use the word "work" to describe the software. It has one of the worst user interfaces I've ever seen.

Yeah, the GUI is pretty horrible. However, as long as it gets the job done and does it right, I don't give a rats ass. ;)

Same here, cause I always run in full screen mode and use the remote.

What I would like to do is hook up my gamecube or xbox to my monitor.

My other computer has a capture card but i never had much luck getting it to work...perhaps I should try again.

    Worf

It's worth it if you can, because a monitor is capable of higher definition than a TV. You just need to make sure whatever input method you use is capable of producing the required signals.

    Translation: Use S-video! :)
  • BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Yeah, I do. When I first got my tuner card and plugged my PS2 into it, the composite signal was even worse than I was expecting. I'd heard it looked bad, but I never realised just how bad. Now I use s-video and am much happier for it. Of course, it'd be good to get a capture card that does component. :)
