Picture Folders in XP

Is there any way to completely prevent XP from opening folders containing pictures as friggin' picture folder thing (technical term)? It's really annoying when a folder containing one picture and ten thousand text files opens like that...

  • HOLY CRAP, I posted this, and my PC apparently took offense. EVERY folder on my PC is, by default, a picture folder. If I go to My Computer and C:\, it displays all the folders in an PICTURE FOLDER. Help!

I prefer to have all my folders open in Detail view.

Here's the easiest way to do this:

    1) Open Windows Exporer
    2) Change your view to Detail (or whatever else you want, just not thumbnails, which you seem to dislike)
    3) Go to Tools -> Folder Options
    4) Go to the View tab
    5) Click 'Reset All Folders' button, and confirm with Yes in the dialog.
    6) Click 'Apply to All Folders' and confirm with Yes again

That should ensure that all your folders open consistently in the view of your choice.

    Hope this helps!
  • Thanks! I was messing around with the options a bit because it annoyed me when a single picture turned an entire folder into a PF (I think you're thinking of thumbnails--I mean the type of view where everything in the folder is listed in a row on the bottom, and the top 2/3 of the window is a preview window for images), and every folder became messed up. Fixed now. :)

Oh, yep I was thinking of thumbnails. The mode you described sounds even worse... glad you got it fixed!
