What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
This is a little something i've been working on for a few days/weeks now.
I originally set out to do a replicate of the SciFi BSG Viper, but the material that's out there isn't enough for me to make a ship that looks the same, so i decided to keep the overall design, while putting in some artistic license.
I want to keep this pretty low-poly, i'm heading for hopefully 4000 polys or less.
Most of the parts are currently high-poly spline-cages that need to be toned down.
Allready more or less final (though none of the not-visible poly's have been deleted yet) are: the cockpit (though i'll probably retouch the "strut"), all wings, the top-engine housing, and the rear hull (that you don't really see).

one think that i've been wondering. If you look at the earlier pics, should i keep the wings with the "holes" free or filled up like they are now?
now all the engine-housings are low-poly (though the ones on the side will get some modelled detail)

Everythings now low-poly. the only modelling that needs to be done is add a little "intrusion" in the sides of the nose. (and maybe the guns :D)
The modell is now finished, if i'm not to mistaken... on to the textures:rolleyes:

Had time to work on the textures.

What needs to be done is: cockpit, the "thrusters", the top engine-details (the thing under the engine-housing), and the main body (bottom/aft) (also, the nose texture isn't finished yet).
And I'll probably at least touch up the wing and lower engine-housing textures, as the first seems much to smooth, and the latter was the first texture of this ship i worked on (and I also want to add some inscriptions)
Also, I don't like how the registration number looks, so there'll probably be some changes to (and if it's only the colour)
though the textures aren't that good... (well, for my skills, they are good, but if you compare them to what other people produce)
btw, just for the fun of it, i made a pic with all the dirt and damage removed, a fresh from the assembly line Viper, so to say.

Though if you look at the engine housing, roughly where the "rounding" starts, there is something that looks like a line.
Dirt always looks good!
There'll be much more dirt in the final version ;)
for example at the joint betweeenthe cockpit canopy and the nose/hull

didn't have much time to work on it, but now everything has a texture (though the bottom/back isn't detailed yet, just crude colors).
I'll probably redo the gun, and play a bit with the blackness of some of the new details...

RE: Specularity: I originally made the ship to be released as fighter for Freelancer, but i'm moving more and more away from that idea. Specularity maps probably would enhance the model, so i've started thinking about that :)
I've had some time to work on the bottom and aft textures.

I've cut the modeled detail from the engines, and instead worked it into the textures, she's now about 1,5-2k Polys lighter
