Amount of spam

E.TE.T Quote-o-matic
Those spammers and especially their sponsors better prey that they'll never meet me!!:shadow2:
Because if I'll ever get them to my hands I'll crush their fingers and toes one bone at a time with 2kg "fine-tuning" hammer!
After that same thing with hands and legs and then driving over them with tractor. (or maybe with tractor's cart weighting eleven tons)

Amount of incoming spam has at least tripled in one week!:angryv:
Has anyone noticed same?

Now it would be last change for western countries to force international arrangement for against spammers. (details of minimum penalty won't matter, just it's as painful as possible)
If that won't be done usefullness of e-mail goes fast down to near zero.

I haven't noticed a large increase, i still get a lot, much less since i deleted one of my email accounts.

The spam problem is out of control, and something needs to be done soon.

but the amount of spam, and all the porn websites and other crap out there in general convinces me that the Internet as it is is a failed experiement.

Now that doesn't mean that it can't work, but in its current form, its a bit of a kludge.

I get maybe 3 or four spams a day, now, and that's a big increase that started last week. ;) I've had the same generic Hotmail address for as long as I've been registered here and I use it for almost all purposes. After their latest modification, I haven't received more spam than 1 message per week, before last week, that is. Without tweaking any settings or anything. :)
• CurZCurZ Resident Hippy
Today I got 9 spam messages. They were all moved to the junk folder by Mozilla's junk mail filter :D
• C_MonC_Mon A Genuine Sucker
Today I got no e-mail at all, last week I got 2 e-mails no junk mail.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I get probably 10 spams a day in my spam-catching account, which is to be expected because one of the addresses that points to it is on the firstones.com front page.
• JackNJackN Lightwave Alien
Mine has dropped from 1000 a day to 100-150. I just delete everything.

I think if you don't repsond, you eventually go on a list as an address that doesn't buy shit...

;)
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I doubt that. :)
• Mozillas junk mail detection seems really poor for me..I must be missing something...

2 weeks, about 50 junk mails that I've marked as junk (Yes I have the adaptive filter on) and even identicle ones don't get caught...am I missing something simple?!?

They better believe it fast.

I've been using that address over four years.
I guess that in last may spammers were searching new addresses using "random" posting because I got first spams on then (about five spam messages in few weeks)
After that there didn't come nothing until August when it started to come little over ten spam messages per week. After that amount of spam stayed stable until now.

The Thunderbird ones worked brilliantly for me up until a couple of weeks ago, now they hardly seem to be working at all. Apparently the spammers are trying new tactics that get past baysian filters.

The only realistic way to stop spam is to alter the email infrastructure so that it's properly secure, rather than letting anyone send anything whether they have to complete some computational puzzle or not.

Four words:
I don't trust Microsoft
Do you believe that they could develop system to prevent spamming when their OSs and programs are full of holes?

At least this morning there weren't anymore dozen spam messages t oclean, but now one of them had had virus.
(ISP's servers make virus check for every message, incoming and outgoing)
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Got to agree with ET. I also don't like the concept of MS being in control of the email infrastructure.
• BekennBekenn Sinclair's Duck
It looks to me like they're trying to come up with a new e-mail protocol, not proprietary software. Which is exactly what you suggested above.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Yeah, but it's possible to control protocols as well.
• BekennBekenn Sinclair's Duck
Yeah, but if they did that, nobody would adopt it. There's already a workable system in place for e-mail, so nobody really has a genuine need to "upgrade." This is one case where if Microsoft's software doesn't work with everyone else's (particularly AOL's), Microsoft loses.

I had 2 the same on 2 days saying "Here's my photo that you asked for" Like hell I deleted it straight away case of a virus.

I get loads of spammy stuff too. Is a right pain in the (_I_)!

Yeah, you've got to actually have filters in place for it to work. :D
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I was quite surprised when I got an email with the latest virus in it. I never get them, usually. I took great pleasure in noting that I was running thunderbird under linux when I received it. :D

One thing from which you know message is spam are weird dates:
2.2.2004 16:49
EDIT:
or like this: 17.1.2003 04:52
• MartianDustMartianDust Elite Ranger
Actually I never looked at the dates. I'll bear that in mind though now. :)
• PJHPJH The Lovely Thing
I've been only getting about 20 spam e-mails per day until now. Yesterday it all changed all of a sudden and I got a few hundred e-mails of spam and most of them had a file attached with them which most likely were all viruses! That's just unbelievable!

F**K ALL E-MAIL SPAMMERS PUBLICLY WITH A TO BY FOUR IN THEIR BLOODY ARSE I SAY! That should teach them some f***ing manners.

• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
The only time I notice weird dates on spams is when they don't get filtered and don't appear at the top of my inbox. :)
• I have six filters running..words like "Viagra in either the message or the body - trash.

but alas, NO MESSAGES ARE EVER CAUGHT. :(
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
You know, it sounds to me like either you haven't set up your filters properly, or it's catching stuff and deleting it immediatly so you don't notice it.
• I have filters setup, all set to run the "Inbox" and send messages to my junkmail folder.

the only mail in my junkmail folder is the stuff I moved there.

the adaptive filter never caught anything, so I made a bunch of word filters, and still nothing gets caught.
