oh SHOOT...HELP, Floppy disc problem!

OK, Mom's PC was REALLY slowing down, so I formatted it. I made backups of everything, including the only quicken I could find, onto CD.

Quicken also backs up onto TWO SEPERATE flopies.

format done. goto get quicken data from the CD...ok, somehow TWO versions of quicken were installed, and I got the wrong one. no data there. OK, two floppies have the data.

Floppy #1: Reads fine, but apparently quicken NEVER backed up onto it. there is no quicken data. Werider still, there are two photos on it, I formatted that disc before giving it to mom to use for quicken, and mom keeps the quicken disc in a special place so it is only used for quicken.

Floppy #2: has the quicken data files, four of them one has the data we need. the other three copy fine. the one we NEED gets about 95% done, and just...quits reading. floppy is wirring and whining, but it cannot read that last few bytes!!!

so, is there ANY WAY to get that file?!?

HELP!!! Thats five YEARS of quicken data on that file, and it's the ONLY BACKUP that worked!

Have you tried a program like BadCopy Pro? It has a free trial, so it's worth a shot. Good luck :)

  • GAH! it WORKED.

"File recovered sucsessfully, please choose location to save"

    *Choses location*

*We're sorry, this is a limited version of BadCopyPro, you must register this version to save files"

^&(*^*#@#$!!! Enough to make me NOT buy it!

So much for the free trial...

There are oodles of programs around that do the same thing. Have a look on google.

Gar, sorry about that :( At least you know it's recoverable...

There are a few others mentioned on this site, you could try them and maybe they'll work (for free)

Well, I went looking for a registration code for BadCopy Pro (he's only going to use it once, so I figured what would be the harm?) and found a free solution:

I don't know how well it works so use at your own risk. (link is towards the bottom)

    Wrong address.

    1. Choose program
    2. turn off pop-ups and javascript (and other security holes if you're using IE)
    3. Search with program name: http://astalavista.box.sk/ (now you know why to turn of pop-ups)

Searching for *ahem* stuff using IE is just asking for trouble. Atleast use Mozilla. :) Although we aren't supposed to be p1mping that stuff here, right guys? ;)

Seriously though A####, did you get yer stuff back?
  • after many tries, raning from slaw to UBER slow recovery, all I managed to get was the numerical values. meaning dates, check numbers, and check values. no information such as who this check was for, what it was for, or who gave it to us. :(

soo, will save mom some time for plugging it back in, but she'll still have alot of work to do. :(

thanks for all the help though guys. four forums, and this is the least traveled, and you guys are the only ones that helped. :D
