Rumours of Enterprise being cancelled?

BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Rumours abound that Enterprise may be cancelled. I think this recent conversation with Sanfam regarding a 2nd season episode perfectly sums up my feelings about this. (Note: slightly edited to remove random off topic ramblings by Sanfam.)

[21:45] Biggles: god this is boring
[21:46] Biggles: watching enterprise. it just keeps going from bad to worse
[21:46] Sanfam: heh
[21:46] Sanfam: Yeah
[21:46] Sanfam: stoop!
[21:46] Sanfam: WHy are you still watching?!
[21:46] Biggles: i really dont know
[21:46] Sanfam: I gave up season one
[21:46] Biggles: i gave up after the first episode of season 2, which was the worst ST has ever done
[21:47] Sanfam: I ave it a shot.
[21:47] Sanfam: I really wanted it to succeed.
[21:47] Sanfam: It didn't.
[21:47] Sanfam: it failed miserably
[21:47] Biggles: season 1 is nothing compared with the horribleness of the 3 recent episodes from season 2 i've watched
[21:47] Biggles: but i figure i've downloaded them now i may as well watch them
[21:47] Sanfam: no.
[21:48] Sanfam: Free the space
[21:48] Sanfam: wipe it.
[21:48] Sanfam: clear yourself.
[21:48] Sanfam: the most recent episode I saw was the one where they go to a place like the old west
[21:48] Sanfam: where the aliens are now slaves.
[21:48] Sanfam: and I was like "What the fuck?"
[21:48] Sanfam: "this is stupid"
[21:48] Sanfam: "NO! The remote!"
[21:48] Sanfam: as I lost the remote in my chair.
[21:48] Sanfam: and was unable to turn the TV off.
[21:48] Biggles: OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE!
[21:48] Biggles: trip, stuck on a planet with some alien princess and now they're going at it
[21:49] Biggles: SOMEONE KILL B&B!!!!
[21:49] Sanfam: ...
[21:49] Sanfam: He's arleady got T'pol, doesn't he?!
[21:49] Biggles: well now he has some alien princess as well.
it went argue, argue, argue, fight, fall in water, kiss, sleep with each other
[21:50] Biggles: this is so utterly pathetic.
dawson's creek would be more entertaining
[21:50] Sanfam: Actually, that's a common assumption.
[21:50] Sanfam: It's not
[21:50] Sanfam: I tried.
[21:50] Biggles: yes, but you havent seen this episode
[21:50] Sanfam: no, I have not.
[21:50] Sanfam: But, I seriously watched dawson's creek.
[21:50] Biggles: now the fist fight has started
[21:51] Sanfam: cue the either (a) bruised hero returning to re-think his actions, or the (b) hero fighting off the opponent and solving the plot.
[21:51] Sanfam: Which one will win?
[21:51] Biggles: and this woman really really cant act

b won
[21:51] Sanfam: hmm
[21:52] Biggles: i think i'm, going to be sick
[21:52] Sanfam: Stop watching
[21:52] Biggles: but i've downloaded it! it would be a waste of bandwidth!
[21:52] Sanfam: no.
[21:52] Sanfam: I'll mailwhat you need to make it up
[21:53] Biggles: i'm so glad that episode is over.
[21:53] Sanfam: what episode in the season was that?
[21:55] Biggles: 211
[21:57] Sanfam: ...
[21:57] Sanfam: GIVE UP
[21:57] Sanfam: NOW
[21:57] Sanfam: EJECT!
[21:57] Sanfam: EJECT!
[21:57] Sanfam: EJECT!

Enterprise has a huge potential, story-wise, but it's utterly lost in all the stupid standard trek episodes they are doing. Like the one with the religious fanatics taking over enterprise.
If they'd actually seeded the episodes with more references to the temporal civil war stuff etc, they could have made the first decent Trek since TNG...
  • ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
i agree that there have been quite a few crap episodes, but i think that it may yet improve. as i recall, it took TNG quite a while to become anygood, at least in my estimation
  • BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Even TNG wasn't this bad before it improved, and showed signs of improving well before halfway through the second season. From what I hear, the 3rd season is just as bad.

it has its moments, besides its better than most of the other shit on tv
  • RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
3rd season is better than the second i'd say, but like last weeks episode (the one I talked about), it has those just god damn awful episodes (not that even those don't have their moments).
I'd be sad if they cancel it, because it has likeable characters, nice sets etc.
The only thing that isn't good is 50% of the stories, and that's a shame.

Yah the other night I sat down to watch TV, saw that Enterprise is coming on, and thought, I haven't watched this show in a long time, I think I'll see whats up. Well, after the intro for the wild west episode came on I just turned off the TV and went out in the garage. I mean come on what's next? An episode where they visit a planet run by Nazis?

That's what really annoys me. They have these wonderful sets, good actors, and characters with good potential, but they completely ignore all that and just make shit stories instead.

Thats why I watch very little TV. All I really watch is JAG, Highlander, and Gargoyles. Scifi doesn't even air B5 anymore....the fucking bastards!

I watched season 1 then gave up! It was ok but nothing special. I never liked the actors. Some of the stories were ok. But they're nothing next to DS9 or the Jean Luc Picard ones. Still I didn't like Voyager. Hated that woman captain, forget her name, but her voice was really CRINGEWORTHY. God knows how much helium she took beforehand. So for me ST died a long time ago.

DS9, I keep forgetting that damn Ferrengi's name... but the episode called the "House of [that damn Ferrengi's name]" where he takes over the Klingon house for a bit as it's head of household.

    :p

Just so you are aware... J-A-N-E-W-A-Y is a forbidden word on this forum... ;)

RE: ST-Voyager, I thought it consistently contained some of the best Visual FX ever done for a TV series. 'Course I might be a little biased, having worked across the cubical from the guys doing them when I worked at Foundation. :p

Enterprise is too complex for the american audience? things from one episode may actually be mentioned in a later episode?

    Typically.....

It's a much deeper and longer history than that. :)

We used to have a guy here who was obsessed with her. One day, a thread started known as "The Babe Thread". Guess what it was about. Anyway, basically it degenerated into this guy trying to convince the rest of us of his delusional view that... she... is "beautiful". This consisted of posting of many pictures of her in various "poses". Naturally, a lot of other people fired back. Eventually, someone posted porn. And from that day on, mentioning her name has been a banning offense and it is included in the board's censored words list. :D

Agreed on absolutely every point, although "her" voice wasn't much of an issue for me during the first three seasons when the show was still consistently watchable. Once they brought in the walking pair of D-cups and changed it from "Voyager" to "The 7 of 9 Show," though, they lost all respect from me. Still, I watched it for a while, hoping it would get better. And, to be fair, Voyager actually does have some of the best single hours of any Star Trek ever ("Year of Hell" in particular comes to mind), but that was vastly offset by almost every other episode the show produced, as well as the complete lack of respect for continuity with the other Star Treks.

And yes, you spelled "Quark" right.

try play.com. the UK box-sets (TNG for sure, DS9 i think) are about 50% of the price everywhere else

There is a reference to Enterprise in today's The Boondocks. At least, I think it's a reference to Enterprise. It might be general Star Trek.

Just had a look, TNG box sets are 52%off, but the DS9 is only 30%, which means that they're still just under 60 quid! ah well......ill just have to settle for B5 and stargate for the time being
  • RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
I'm currently serously considering getting the TNG boxes at that price...

It shouldn't have been an issue with me but I couldn't get into any of the actors. That Dr. guy was also annoying. The punky alien guy was the best. Had abit more character.
I never watched when 7 of 9 appeared!
I did however like the theme music that was the best out of all the treks. :)

And I still got last season of DS9 to watch somewhere.........

Aye, the Voyager theme is great, though I still like DS9's theme more.

On the other hand, I'm still a bit miffed that neither one of those includes the Courage theme; somehow, it just doesn't sound like Star Trek without Alexander Courage's opening.
