An Australian perspective
I am a games developer with over eight years experience, based in Adelaide, Australia. I know some other aussies wanted to try to woo the origional programmers of the Sierra game to publish a new title. I have an extensive code base for real time 3d that could be put to work immediately, and there are many talented artists living in my city who would love the opportunity to work on such a title. Sorry to post this in the public forum, my email was playing up. Please respond through the forum or email nazlfrag@hotmail.com if you are interested in reviving this three year old game.

Thanks for writing. Feel free to email me. But you should realize that, as I understand it, WB is no longer licensing interactive projects based on the Babylon 5 universe (maybe they will again someday – who knows?), and that Sierra has the Code, and Sierra originated artwork, and the video shot for the game tied up legally and doesn’t seem to be interested in selling it. Even if you could get the code, it’s so old now that a). you may as well start over, and b). I doubt that even Dan Foy would remember what the hell we were doing, way back then. The narrative elements for the game seem to be a legal gray area. Can’t determine if Sierra owns it because it was written by their employees on their time, or if WB owns it because it’s based on their license. My guess is that WB would come out on top re: the narrative stuff. Anyway, many hurdles to hop through before something interactive and B5 related could be marketed, much less trying to resurrect ITF. All of the original developers have of course moved on to other things by now. Many have families and are well entrenched where they are. I can’t speak for them, but I’ll bet it’d be difficult to get anyone to come to Australia – or even be interested in starting with ITF all over again. You have to understand that we went through a massive emotional roller coaster. Most have had to put ITF behind them and get on with their lives for the sake of mental health. BUT – if you have strong voodoo and can make something happen, well – I’d personally love to hang down under for a bit, and Christy has friends and family there. No promises naturally, but it’s worth chewing the fat over.

Yeah, me to, i can't code, or like render, or make game music, or really anything else that has to do with designing a game, but i like to play them. Hire me...

..And so it Begins
Of course, QA is not "hanging around playing games", but rather the careful examination of the game play experience, pushing the limits of the player and the code, and reliably reporducing bugs or other degerate cases in the story or artwork. QA is also a common starting point for future producers and designers.
Thus, if you really want to be 'in the biz', you don't have to be a programmer or artist... but it is still going to be hard work.

Thanks for your informative posting, shadow boxer had been talking with me which led me to you, and you have cleared up all the issues that had been going through my head. I guess a B5 licence is out of the picture then... I had an idea that the origional artwork/cutscenes and a licence would be all that was needed to make the game, just add all new code and we'd have a product! But to redo the artwork or attempt a project without hope of a licence would be difficult. As it stands, I cannot see much hope for the game but if this were to change, please let me know.

Entil'Zha: A thorough and disciplined QA person (or staff) is very important to the success of any project. Public betas are not enough.

Right, i know what you mean, I've done some closed beta's of some current popular software, and know that there's more to it than simply using the product, I don't know if i'd want to do that to, it might take away from the final enjoyment of the game.
Course right now i'm stuck doing network administration, and thats not particularly fun either.

I think we are being to final about the idea. Yes it's true that Warner has a freeze on further licensing, and maybe has a bad after taste due to Sierra, but the other side of the coin is that maybe they are re-grouping for the onslaught of Rangers.

This could be very temporary. As to the IP from Sierra/Havas/Vivendi/blah blah blah...
well, It is getting very dated, and it might be just worth doing it over now that we know whats right and whats not in development.
It could be a much more polished project right from the start.
