I'm pretty sure he was not alexander siggid (or what ever he calls himself now)
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Sorry, Rick. Not him. Alexander Siddig was last seen in Reign of Fire.

right.. that's why siggid el fadil didn't make sense (i am talking about my thoughts when writing the previous post), because it's siddig... :)
• RickRick Sector 14 Studios
Well, I stand corrected...it surely did look like him, though...and given the producers DS9 background, it wouldn't have been surprising...

Now I'll have to go back and check the credits...

• Just saw the 2nd part of the pilot. I really hope it'll be made into a series as this was one of the best pilots I've seen! I understand why the true fans of the original series cry blasphemy but I truly liked it. And damn those Cylon warriors look cool :shadow1:

Baltar has turned into a pretty much useless character compared to the Baltar seen in the original series. Baltar in the remake was merely a victim of betrayal and his own ignorance. Baltar in the OS was an actual bad guy that intentionally did evil things.

I guess they did change him in that sense but I can see that they left his character pretty open to evolve into something much nastier. He is shown as a selfish person who even though victim of circumstance has no loyalties to no one and is mainly trying to cover his ass for now.

why is everyone complaining about the few "sex" scenes...what is so strange about it? It got a place in scifi as everywhere else....Maybe you rather wants Star Trek without anything reminding of "sex"

BSG was good btw
• sex is cheap filler material when writes brains compleatly cease to function.

to me, it is a sign of poor writing.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Not always. Sex can be good when done right. It just isn't, most of the time.
• RickRick Sector 14 Studios
There were really only two "sex" scenes, and, given the context of he story, they built the plot (Baltar's vunerability), so it didn't bother me at all. The way they put the PR spin on the sex (i.e. my original opening post) did bother me, because it made it sound like the show would be "Sex in Space."

Thankfully, that was not the case.

Galactica was probably one of the best series premiers I've seen. I take back my negative pre-conceptions. If you toss the premise of the old show aside, this version is orders of magnitude better. I thought that the "sexing up" of Cylons was going to be, frankly, retarded in every way; thankfully, that was not the case, and it fit into the story very well. The style of the shooting of the show reminded me of SAAB and the fights in B5, and you could definitely see the influence of the documentary-style of Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan.

I guess I really liked the "look and feel" of the show. Rather than trying to force the SciFi down your throat (a-la trek), it was more...this is the story. Humanity is in the twilight of it's existence. Here's how it happened. The ShakeyCam documentary-style worked well, and even the Evan Chen-esque music fit in...it was unobtrusive. This was more "serious" film, rather than a goodie-two-shoes dictation of why humanity sucks, and how we need to change our ways, ‘cause “Gene Knows Best™”... :)

I was *totally* surprised by the spy model revealed in the last 20 seconds of the show. It is VERY rare for a twist to surprise me, and that goes a long way in my enjoyment.

Add to that the fact that there are "12 cylon models" and we've only seen 4, I think it will go well to build suspense. Getting Olamos as Adama worked GREAT. None of the acting sucked, which surprised me greatly for a Pilot. I even liked Starbuck—she had the same "in your face ass----" as Dirk Benedict, but as a woman (hey, equal rights, mate ;) ). And changing the dynamic to her being Zack's girlfriend, and that playing into the relationship between Adama and Apollo, I thought added a good humanistic feel to the story.

I guess I like how it felt like a dramatic war movie, rather than a soap opera.

As for the “glitz factor”--

In all honesty, I thought the Galactica, herself, was just...fabulous. I loved the explanation of the "retro" systems. Having the huge retracting decks and armor plating gave the ship a feeling of huge mass that made me think “that thing is just huge....” I really thought the effects were better than B5 in many ways.

I thought that the lack of sound during combat would suck, but I liked it. I loved watching the semi-remodelled vipers fly. My impression was that Vipers were always atmosphere-capable fighters (as in the original show)...but by adding a RCT (reaction control thruster) system for Newtonian control in space made the combat seem far, far better. And I certainly didn’t mind seeing that degree of realism added.

The light-speed jump actually looked more like I'd expect..."poof"...gone...none of this streaking Enterprise warp-drive crap.

I mean, in all honesty, the original had great effects for it’s time, but watching it today, I think..."good lord, I liked *THAT*??!?!?." Even moreso with Galactica 1980.

I'm hoping that this gets to slide into SG1's place, as I think SG:Atlantis will blow the proverbial goat, comparatively.

Anyway, that's just my $0.02. I thought it was better than the original, despite the fears I had on that asinine comment the producer made about the show at the premiere :)

-R.

PS - I know you guys say no, but I’m still stuck on this Baltar-Bashir thing. I put pix of them side by side, and I still don't know. They could be twins. Add to the fact that this actor changes his name more often than his underwear, it gives me pause....maybe HE is a Cylon ;)

True enough. If this does evolve into a TV series, I wonder if they'll bring back the cylon attendant that Baltar had in the original series. That thing looked kinda cool, and freakisly wierd at the same time. :)

Now for something amusing:

Agreed on ALL counts. Including Baltar/Bashir. Although, excluding atlantis. I still have hope.

The more time I think about it, the better I feel about it. I can't explain why. I just do.

Although, I still greatly dislike the shakeycam. Nothing will remove that hatred.

And Galactica 1980? Doesn't exist in my mind :D

Well, it somehow managed to be good, perhaps even great, so I'd say the chances of SciFi picking it up are extraordinarily slim...
