BLACK!

umm.. I like that too. and black&blue and grey and the color your eyes get when the life leaves, like with your skin. I like blue too. And green. But I dont like yellow. Or that color that it gets when you got blood inside your scars. looks like rotten or infected.

Actually its a serious question because I do not know if my monitor is dying or not.
• C_MonC_Mon A Genuine Sucker
I see nothing different in the colors!

Oh well if everything actually is looking purple, then yes your monitor is dying. There is a bad connection somewhere in the cable/plug. When that happens the monitor doesn't get all the information, hence the purple look. It can usually be fixed by resoldering the plug at the end of the monitor cable.

First the serious answer:
Check the cables to make sure everything is tight. I have a monitor where the cables never made good contact - the screen always went to purple. The easy fix was to wiggle the connection. But it could be your monitor too.

• Whenever my monitor starts turning green or purple, I just degauss the shit out of it. It's an old, beat-up IBM (no room for anything better than a 17" until we finish my basement and get a bigger desk, so no reason to upgrade), and it takes anywhere from 1-3 degausses to fix it. Which makes absolutely no sense... but it works.

Degaussing it that much is probably just making the problem worse in the long run.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Degauss?
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Have a look in your monitor's on screen menu (if it doesn't have one, it probably can't be degaussed). It basically pumps a shitload of voltage through a coil around the picture tube to ruin any magnetic field built up inside the monitor that may be causing the electrons to his the wrong pels. The coil can't be left on all the time because then it would burn up, so it's only done when needed (which is usually only when the monitor is turned on). If it's done to much (especially in a short time) the coil can burn out. Monitor repair people say that it needs 10 to 20 minutes to cool down after degaussing, but I have my doubts about it being that long, I can't see it getting quite that hot.
