How is a Starfury launched from an OCD?

RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
I was wondering.. how do starfuries launch from a Omega class Destroyer...
They don't have any landing gear, as far as i know, so my guess is they are dropped into the "launching/landing tunnel" and just thrust away...

Remember, that part of the ship doesn't have gravity. They are probably all hooked to the ceiling or something, with platforms going out so the pilots can get in. Basically the same as the B5 cobra baya, except for the rotating launchers.

Yep, pretty much like that. Hop in, release clamps, thrust.

This from B5tech.com:

Fighter launch system used on the Omega class Destroyer is both simple and efficient. Sometimes referred to as the Pez, the Starfuries are held side by side, within a series of offset elevators referred to as locks. When the launch order is given, the Starfury on the right is raised and fired from its launch platform, and is immediately followed by the vessel to its left and vice-versa. With sixteen locks per Destroyer, each holding two Starfuries, an Omega class vessel can launch all 36 of her fighters in less than two minutes under emergency conditions.

Be warned that, due to the limited availability of official information, a great deal of stuff at b5tech can't be relied upon. A lot of it is just fan brainstorming about how it could work. While most of it is reasonable, it's not always reliable.

In this case yes. But in many other cases it is so bad.

I'm pretty sure they don't come out of the floor of the docking bay. There's nowhere for them to come out from below there. I'm fairly sure the fighter bays are in the long rectangular section between the front panelly bit and the rotating section. The stuff between the front panels is all tanks and sensors and stuff, nothing solid.

hm.. you mean in the section with the escape pods?
well, that doesn't change much, except for the distance to the exit

It would actually change it considerably. The docking bay is (vertically) aligned with the center of that section. This would suggest to me that it opens up into a flight deck type area, where the 'furies would all be lined up along the walls already hanging, just waiting to go. Then what you would do is get everyone in their ships, seal the flightdeck entrance, and open it to space via the docking bay. The pilots then thrust out of their mounts one at a time, turning 90 degrees when they line up with the docking bay. Then just fly on out. No raising arms needed or anything.
Besides, having to raise them all out of the floor, even all at the same time, would add far too much time to the launch sequence.

hm... ok, so, if i understand correctly, what you suggest is, that they are hanging near the walls/in bay like openings in the walls (i think bays, like you see in "Each night i dream of home" on the Excalibur might be more safe, in case of a "landing" maneuver like the one excercised there, allthough on an Omega the space should feel more cramped, more submarine like i think) and then thrust more towards the center of the docking bay and fly out.

btw, with my technique, it took exactly 3 seconds from opening the hatch to when the fury left the tunnel... and id have done the launching like that:
we have rows. something like that
1 2
3 4
5 6
and the starting sequence would have looked something like that:
hatch one opens. Fury one is raised. Hatch two opens. Fury one is rotatet. fury two is raised. Hatch 3 opens. Fury one is launched fury 2 is rotated. Fury 3 is raised. Hatch 4 opens. Platform one is lowered. Fury 2 is launced. fury 3 is rotated Fury 4 is raised. Hatch 5 opens .... I think you got the point

the reason i'm asking all this and bothering with it is that we want to have launching sequences in the StarLancer TC, and they should be not only "exciting" but also a bit "realistic"..
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Yeah, that image from Crusade is pretty much what I mean, but more cramped like a sub, as you said. Far more cramped.
While your seqeunce would work, it is unnecessarily complex for the situation, especially given the nature of the Omega's shape in that area.

yes... ok.. and then.. too much moving parts= too much to animate *hehe* (ok, I'm a lazy bastard )
