The Fallout series is absolutely great. It's story isn't as epic-ish as the BG series, but it has some great moments (like the rather sarcastic computer on the old army base in Fallout 2) and fun roleplaying (you can get a reputation for being a child killer).

I was a massive Fallout fanatic when I was introduced to it a few years back. When I left Firstones in 2001, I spent a year over at the now sadly deleted "Vault13.net", a great Fallout community. (However, a lot less welcoming than Firstones.) ;)

My favorite area of the two games was definately the "Sierra Army Depot". It was really quite spooky walking around in it considering the role-play and storyline factors.

Civ 2 and Smac are fantastic. I still play sim city 2000, x-com ufo defence, supermarrio world on the super nintendo, populous 2. Actually I suggest you all look at the-underdogs.com (it may be .org or .net, not sure). they have a lot of great games

You know, I wonder why those kids weren't forced to play Blackhawk on the Commodore 64. Now THAT was a fun game. :) Even the MIDI music didn't get old even though it repeated all the time, and it only had one song.
  • Biggles, I have played a tiny bit of BG1, and I am about halfway through BG2, because I'm a fool and lost the original.

Fallout is an excellent game, as well... never played it, but I've seen it played, and I WANT it!

The Civilization series is also wonderful. I play Civ3, because I personally like it more (never played the others very much, and I played 3 first, so I might be biased), and it is addictive as all hell. Assuming I don't end up having to reformat the HD on my currently screwed up good PC, I'll have to show you the map for my latest game... two large islands, one owned by me (conquered 2 civs to get it), and another owned by 4 others. The one owned by me has a ridiculous amount of cities, all as close together as possible, and almost all above 5 population. It's only on Regent difficulty (I set out trying to make a crapload of cities, so I didn't want too much of a challenge :p), but it's amusing when I get invaded... at least 10 cities within one turn's movement to defend any other city. :p

The 7's were good, but a bit rushed I think, they had alot more they could have done, but didnt.

I actually started working on a Babylon 5 mod for Civ III (alough it would fit better with Civ2:ToT because of the stronger scripting language and multiple maps). I got the white sta into the game, but gave up because of my lack of 3d modding knowhow.

That's where the sarcastic computer I mentioned is.

"Analysing response. Conclusion: Sarcasm. Chance of help: 25%."

Computer: "The oil rig is located at XXX degrees north, XXX degrees west."
Player: "I don't understand those coordinates."
Computer: "Accesing slang dictionary... accessed. Translation follows.
    1. It's a long ways out in the ocean.
    2. You need a big boat to get there.
    3. If you do not understand the geographical coordinate system, you will not find it."
  • Thanks Biggles, I wasn't sure whether you meant the one in the S.A.D. or "The Glow".
