Theyve been planning for some time now. If I remember correctly, they also plan to create the first ever moon base. I wonder if they will send dr. Lucky?

They could have strapped several hundred flying squirrels together, had someone grab hold, and let them go.
• "Bang! Zoom! Straight to the moon!" :D

That was the plan.

Good for them. Hopefully they won't have the same problems NASA has had in the past.
• I didn't even know China HAD a space programme. However, like Vertigo I fully support their efforts; it'd be a major boost to China's economy as well.

Hopefully, since the Chinese space program is getting bigger and gaining the attention of the media, Congress will finally authorize the appropriate funding NASA should have had all along.

It would be good to have another space race on our hands. It's about time people on this planet start looking towards the stars and working together for the common good of the planet.

Yep... I'm glad someone is going back to the fucking Moon again...

Hmmm, interesting, if China goes to Mars, they won't have to worry about color changes... :p

Actually, I think the plan was to use a big freaking cannon like that old silent movie.... minus the sailor girls and moon-monkeys...

While I'd quite like to see cooperation between China, Russia, the US, the EU, Brazil, Japan, and everyone else who's playing with special meat containers, a little competition never hurt.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
until you go bankrupt. Then, you can blame it for everything :D
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I said a little. A little won't send you bankrupt. :)
• A space race to get to Mars would be something else, especially if it were between the US and China.

However, I guess the Chinese need to crawl before they can walk...

How about Russia and China putting their efforts togetter

Personally, I doubt that'd happen.

Despite them both having a communist past, Russia is trying to forget the old regime an put it in the past. China also fell out with Russia as it became more tolerant towards capitalism in the 1970s, and were seen as "revisionist".

I still think there's some mistrust between the two nations, definately enough to prevent uniting in such a venture.

Yes! And I also believe that China wants to make this on their own.

Some Russian scientists have provided a little help to China, but mostly China is very very keen on everything being done by the Chinese for the Chinese. They don't want help from anyone unless they really need it, and they arn't interested in cooperating with anyone.

Speaking as a budding Anthropologist, the Chinese have always been quite an insular people, going way back to the renaissance period when Europe first started to trade with them. It took a squadron of Royal Navy warships threatening to bombard the coast before they agreed to trade with Britain! :D

However, I can also see why as the last major communist power way they'd want to go it alone, maybe they've got something to prove to the world?

If the flight goes by the book, NASA may hopefully gain more funding in the near future. The current financial status is somewhat alarming due to that recent shuttle crash and other problems.

Being a scholor of chinese political trends, and such, Im apprehensive about such moves, actualy, Ive read recent stuff by PLA commanders (typicly generals) that could imply the chinese plan on making territorial claims, exclusive territorial claims to places they land on.

Frankly that idea right there is scary and I think the Space command and NASA need a major boost, cause the winner holds the high ground, especialy in this game.

And Im an astute enough student of history and politics to know I do NOT want China as the hegemon.
