It simply can said that he had made "Gold from nothing".
Born as a normal guy in an austrian village he had brought himself to a famous, rich and successful man with his encourage and intelligence.
If he has a similar motivation as governeur for California he will do the right things to fight against the economical problems.

You're right, the guy has really made his place in the world, and that's exceptional. I can see why he's a role-model for some and has the respect of many others.
For once I must agree with Sanfam (gasp).. Konrad is exactly right. I live in CA, and I think he will do a good job. HE is very moderate, was the best candadite (as far as being moderate and running on a good platform). HEs extreamly pro education, cares about the people, and IS a political outsider, a good thing. Plus, its not like our state can get any more f'd up anyways... We could go bankrupt... Oh wait, we already are...
Business experience? Didn't Planet Hollywood go broke?
Here's my prediction: The lawsuit against Enron, Duke Energy, and the other power companies that raped California is going to be quietly settled for pennies on the dollar. See, Arnie and Kenny are buddies. They met during the energy crisis.
This isn't about politics at all, it's about the money. Why did Issa, who wanted the job himself, suddenly drop out, despite being more palatable to the Republican Party itself? Think on it.
I will watch the California thing with much amusement and be happy I live nowhere near the place.
Issa dropped out because he didn't want to split the vote. He knew that if he stayed in the race, he'd only make it more likely that Bustamante would win. By dropping, he made Arnold look like a more attractive candidate for those who would otherwise have voted Issa. There's nothing at all mysterious or underhanded about that.

I agree with Bekenn, politics has always been about putting your party first, especially if you're not powerful enough to challenge it yourself as some modern politicians have done. (Blair.)
As William Pitt the Elder once said; "Damn your principles, you owe everything to party."

"energy companies raping california" Alright, do you know who the two laregest gougers in the energy crisis were!? do YOU!?
Ironicly they were LAPL and the WONDERFULL but you probably never heard of it BPC, or Bonneville Power Administration. I happen to live in an area we were had our rates jack up because our power administrators were making TOP dollar selling power to california instead of locaally.
Oh and LAPL and the BPA are both government owned essentialy. THATS why I have no faith in things, because it was government boddies themselves raping california.
Frankly if you actualy look at the policies california adopted you would notice its governmer and its legistlature were killing the state. As those people who post here from that state will tell you.
And I do worry about california, I live just to the north, and when things go bad down there, it tends to affect us here too.

Well the United States being a Federal system in the first place should not be that difficult to merge into three seperately governed areas.
However, consolodating so much power into just 3 places could take away influence from the government in Washington itself.
Its not just a East/West divide, its just how ugly american politics is getting in general.
The largest power generator in my area is the Bonnivelle Power Administration which runs the damns on the Snake river and the Columbia, and it behaves about as bad as Enron and its government run, so frankly up here in the northwest those who watch whats going down dont have alot of faith in either side. The dems are poiting at enron (and its local subsidary PGE) while ignoring that their own people are making as big of messes.
Frankly the whole lot should be shot, but thats just me.
The problem is that the very way americans view huamnity, the world and existance is starting to show a definate divergances. Take this board Rhett, myself and certain others can take the same information as AnlaShok and other people and draw differing conclusions.
Its not that one of us is an idiot, its just our fundamental basic understanding of the world and humanity is so radicly different that any kind of understanding, much less compromise is becoming more and more impossible
Also the area specific disagreements, like California needs water, and they want the water out of the Snake River and Columbia basins. They are NOT getting it :P or at least thats the general concesus amongst locals and natives up here.
Frankly with all the problems I wouldnt be suprised if it comes down to shooting within 50 years, maybe 20. I dont think it will be like 1861, there are no regional blocks, probably more like Columbia, with assasinations and counter assainations, terrorist attacks, and other mischeif like that.
Poltical parties, the founders should have banned them.
