Problems with ICQ
Aurora SF
Ranger
in Zocalo v2.0
This problem is getting me pretty pissed off. Éverytime when I start ICQ it's in system tray for a while and then it disappears and it still plays that sounds when somebody sends me a message but I can't read it...the most funny part in this is, reinstalling won't fix the problem...any suggestions?

Y'know, while you're waiting for Trillian to finish downloading.
My sister keeps trying to install AIM on MY new PC, and I remove it everyday; only the best software deserves a spot on my hard drive, and AOL is definetely not in that category. :)
So do yourself a favor and create a user account where she can't install anything. ;)
Trillian is far better designed than that. :)
Unfortunately, it nags you to pay for the pro ver, and is bloatware.

Well my parents make me share... Only takes a minute to uninstall, takes her 5 to install. :)
Or, you can use 2 different computers. I use my new computer, when all others in my family only get to use my old comp.
That would work... but my paren'ts don't let it. My sister rarely uses this one, thankfully.
You're parents won't let you! Damn, if I own the computers I'm the master ower them and noone tutches them without my permision.
Well I paid for $800, they paid for $400, so they occassionally exercise their... stockholding rights. :)

I wouldn't call trillian bloatware. ICQ is bloatware.
ICQ is a perfect example of such software. It has far more features than anyone could want.
Hmm.. that sort of reminds me of something.

Ah, but you forget: with 67% ownership, you have controlling interest.
But they own 100% of the house which shelters my PC from the elements, and the food that keeps me alive long enough to use the PC. :(

Trillian isn't bloatware. The extra stuff is available as OPTIONAL plugins. The main program handles only the important stuff.
I bought the pro version, because it was worth every penny.

Then I've got a solution for ya. Whip up a batch file and make it auto-load via your registry so that it deletes the AIM executable everytime Windows loads. :D Be sure to hide the file somewhere that your sister wouldn't find it.

Which is why the Miranda ICQ open source project was started.

My sister has no idea what a batch file is... her idea of PC gaming is going on Yahoo Pool and talking to "15-year old boys from Germany," aka "40-year old guys from Illinois."
