this is frightening given its potential social consequences...

imagine a bus or train full of these... people walking down the street glued to the tube...

I doubt being able to watch TV on a cell phone will really make that much of a social impact.

You can already play games on cell phones, and that hasn't really made much of a difference.

And even if you COULD watch TV on a cell phone, there are two big disadvantages that would make watching TV more of a novelty than an addiction:

    - Small screen (VERY small, in fact. Smaller than most portable TV screens)

    - Lousy reception (no cable or satellite feeds, only broadcast stations). And if you're on the move, the reception fades in and out, which is even more annoying.

I have a handheld TV made by Casio. I rarely use it except in extreme situations (extreme weather conditions away from home, mostly). It's just not very fun watching a picture meant for a large screen in a 2" x 2" area. And a cellphone screen will undoubtedly be even smaller than that.

still... its bad enough as it is... I have witnessed a guy sitting on the bus behind me (I was in a rearward facing seat), with his walkman right up... two guys behind him proceeded to bash the shite out of each other, and the walkmanite only noticed when one of the guys splashed his blood on his Mr Walkpersons jeans...

...noboby pays any attention to anybody else anymore, we are so insular, so isolated and so headed for disaster...
