I think he means that he doesnt care if he offends any ppl. And I can understand him. A year ago, I was as cynical and agressive as he was (remember?). Then I understood that there are other ways of fighting the American imperialism than shouting at people who doesnt deserve it (like you guys).

I can understand if people are unhappy with US foreign policy or "Imperialism" as some may want to call it, but I just didn't agree with Simmonds' "redneck" comment.
This is a sensitive issue, and if he doesn't care about stirring things up, he's in for some rough treatment.

You know, I never really had a problem with you till now. You clearly have never met any US soldier at all, or you wouldn't be making such a moronic statement with absolutely NO PROOF at all to back it up. So kindly fuck off and die, mmmk?

Let me put it to you this way. My grandfather served at Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack by the japanese. (was on one of the subs) My father is a retired E-7 (Navy). Need I say more?

You needn't say more mate.
I had a massive go at this fucking liberal wanker on another forum who took the piss out of the attacks we made during the Somme Campaign in 1916, in which two of my relatives were killed.
My great great uncle was also the chief stoker in the engine room of the battleship HMS Duke of York, two of my grandparents served with the RAF during WW2, and my grandfather on my mother's side was with the Gloucester Regiment in Burma.
My second cousin was also with 45 Marine Commando during the Falklands war.

Exactly. What happened to our troops when they came back from Vietnam really pissed me off. They didn't have a choice in the matter people! When they recieve their orders to go to X place, they MUST go. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. If they don't, its pretty much treason and they get a court martial. Bashing bush is one thing, but bashing people that have no choice in the matter? Thats just downright low.

You're right, the treatment of Vietnam vets after the war was indeed tragic. Treating conscripts like dirt is one thing, but to do the same to professional soldiers who volunteered for campaigns like Vietnam is something else. Both however, utterly sickens me.

I believe it was Patton who said that Americans love to win wars, making the prospect of losing one unthinkable. Well, that's pretty much what happened with Vietnam.
So much resources were piled into the war as well as manpower that pulling out of the war was nothing short of humilliating. Ceratin people wanted scapegoats to blame the conflict on, and inevitably, the soldiers who fought in got the blame and became channels for people's dissolusion.
I know it's not a perfect example, but if you've ever seen "Born on the Fourth of July", you'll get a good idea of what we're talking about.

Oh yeah, I remember about that now. Yeah that was shocking treatment. Not enough that those soldiers put their lives on the line, sometimes volunteering to do so, for their country. What was it Sheridan called those people doing the critising? Arm-chair quarter backers? I wouldnt be so polite!

Very observant, I agree, looking back, the Minbari war discussion part of "And Now For a Word" seemed like quite a visible reference to post Vietnam American politicking.

well as long as you know your full of crap
Im related to a hell of alot of those trigger happy rednecks, My grandfather got the shit shot out of him cracking the Gothic line in Italy, my fathers helicopter was getting shot up in vietnam before the first cav even thought of showing up, my grandfathers a cousin burried in Korea someplace and damn if his brother didnt also end up with the same fate, my uncle got shelled there too, in 68 where you were more likely to die with unit there on the DMZ then you were even if you got posted to vietnam,
I live with those "trigger happy red necks" I damn near am one, I grew up with a marlin lever action .22 in my hand, and honestly I think as a group they are more rational, more intelligent, and even understanding and tolerant then you even begin to give them credit for. Your blindly lashing out and steretoyping in a manner that makes your claims of being "open minded" hypocritical at best.
