I'm not sure If you think I'm one, and to be honest I don't really care.

There are certain members of this board who I don't really like, but thats the same for any community. You gotta learn to get along SB

Under pain of....??
I think its up to the mods to decided how to run this board SB, not you.
In the Zocalo, anything goes!
Underneath all the shallow threats SB may have a point though. Perhaps it wouldn't be such a bad thing to cut down on some of the 'Wackiness'.
my saliva is a good substitute for napalm.
I have no problem with general wackiness... I have no problems with people being purile, adolecent and pains in the arse...
most of the time.
It's when I open a thread wanting some legitimate feedback, some thoughful discourse... and all I get is packs of monkeys (not you Bobo), making fecal scupltures.
I used to come here for the IQ's above room temperature, the often quite stimulating debate and discussion.
In short... up until now I've been deleting polluted threads... if things dont improve... we'll see how long the arseholes last in a fire fight...
I dont make hollow threats. I make promises.
And... me and the Mods are tight... and just quietly, I doubt they have any disagreement with my opinion of the current state of the boards. They believe in natural progression, in some sort of digital Darwinism... so be it.
I believe in culling.
You’re stuck up attitude really annoys me, when you do get involved in debates you’re arrogance shines through. The problem I have with you is you can’t take it when people disagree with you, or ‘disobey’ you.
I couldn’t give a rats arse if you delete your ‘polluted’ threads, and I don’t think anyone is going to be mourning the passing of your dreamcatcher thread (or whatever the hell it was called).
Don’t make me laugh, sunshine.
methinks someone needs more fiber in their diet.
It sounds like u've had a very bad day friend... try taking a few deep breaths... you may (or may not) have a legitimite point, but you've gone about conveying it in an innapropriot, and inconvienent manor. therefore, instead of envoking sympathy, you are more likely to envoke angered criticism, and general nastiness... thereby spreading the very thing you seek to dispell.
Now, unlike milk, threats never do a body good! there just likely to stir up more of your so called fecal matter (which, by the way, i see as the only logical reason you would make a post like this). and finally, flaunting clout (real or imagined.. tho i'd bet on imagined) with administrators is purely a sign of weakness. It's like a child saying, if you don't do what i want i'll get my daddy to talk to your daddy and get you in trouble... :) not only is that cowardly, it often has a zero effect on the situation.
mod powers are not editing rights, nor do they give one the right to control what people say. And i might imagine if one were to go on an admining spree generally carrying on cranky and editing post after post for content you feel you do not like... well i imagine you might not be an mod for very long :) It's a free world, if people wanna carry on stupid, let them... now if they go on a cursing or hate-invoking spree, that's something else... but that's not the case, now is it?
I dare to say it's people that make posts like the one you just made that pollute boards. And that comes from somone on equal ground with you, a fellow moderator.
And that comes from somone on equal ground with you, a fellow moderator.
He isn't a moderator.
If you feel someone is breaking forum rules, feel free to contact a moderator.
With that said, I agree with you, SB, that some people here tend to troll threads and start flame wars. Some people have a rather acerbic attitude that's not necessary.
But frankly, with this thread, you have shown yourself to be one of them.
You shouldn't have to put up with people flaming or trolling your threads. But that doesn't give you the right to throw your non-existent weight around and threaten things you can't do.
Anyways, reguarding modding threads.... i think i may see a name change for this thread in the future? maybe? just me? i dunno... what do all think? lol
Never name a thread "(hijackers unwelcome)" and expect a thread not to be hijacked.
Had you left that part off, it likely would not have had any hijacking posts in it.
As far as I and a couple other members I have talked to on ICQ, you virtually INVITED people to hijack your thread...

I'd have to disagree with you there.
Just because SB put "hijackers unwelcome" (or a variation thereof) in the title of his thread, that's no reason to hijack the thread. I've always hated that kind of reasoning, that saying "please don't break the rules" somehow gives people a green light to break the rules.
*chik*
ok fine....
have it your way...
I started several threads... I wanted some fellow dreamers, some idealistic types who might just share some of my attitudes, my thoughts, have some fun, provoke a few astute and relevant discussions... but no...
what do I get ?
the digital equivalent of a driveby ejaculations... piss fights... and the fecal sculptors as I mentioned earlier...
the two comments that actually meant something got drowned out in a sea of alcho-vomit
now normally I dont mind people doing as they please, as long as they are respectful of others. Before you start with the Pot/Kettle shit... I AM respectful of others... I'm quite happy to fight the good fight in a debate, but I do my damndest to punch above the belt. I dont resort to direct name calling. The 'fecal sculptors' are perhaps only phases of good people who got 'lost'. Whatever the case may be... what I'm asking for is some fucking respect for others, including fucking ME !
What I also find odd is Sam et al only step in when the 'free speech' issue comes in... or I put a name to or point at what I'm sure alot of other people would like to, if they had as large a mouth, and as bigger fingers as me.
I make no bones about being arrogant... I make no bones about being blunt, being sharp, being exccentric, about being fiesty...
and the mods are still my friends...
because above all I'm am a man of honour, courage and conviction. I support and look after those who need it and those who support and look out for me.
They also know I draw no quarter to those who offend or harm my friends.
Whats also odd is we had this discussion not too long ago, I mooted that we have a sinbin for threads that got ugly... a hell where the evil threads go to die...
I for one think the Ostritch approach to this glaringly eveident problem is NOT working. Every few months we get the same thing happening over and over again... people being wankers and the cheerfully and willfully ignorant Mods and the general board populus ignore it and hope it goes away.
I for one think Firstones need a correctional facility...
and I'm sure at some stage I'll get banged up myself... still...
too many people being fuckheads around here... and no-one with a spine to deal with it
sigh....

I currently don't see what threads you're talking about. Were they deleted? I'm not even sure if I have moderator powers in the Zocalo, but if I did, I would have pruned the offending posts.

I've seen you resort to name calling on more than one occasion, so while you don't like hearing the Pot/Kettle comment, it's applicable. But that doesn't negate your right to have a flame-free thread.
The 'fecal sculptors' are perhaps only phases of good people who got 'lost'. Whatever the case may be... what I'm asking for is some fucking respect for others, including fucking ME !

I'm not harping on the free speech issue. Free speech doesn't give you the right to say whatever you want. You and everyone else still have to follow the rules established in this forum.
Whats also odd is we had this discussion not too long ago, I mooted that we have a sinbin for threads that got ugly... a hell where the evil threads go to die...

As I said the last time we had such a discussion, I don't see any reason why flame wars should be preserved or allowed to carry on in another forum. It lets people think it's ok to break the rules.
I for one think the Ostritch approach to this glaringly eveident problem is NOT working. That's the cyclical nature of any forum. It happens all the time. The thing that most people overlook is that it's not always the same people doing the same thing every time. And creating a "sin bin" as you call it will not solve the problem. I've seen similar things tried in other forums, and it doesn't make any difference.

This forum isn't a place to babysit people, or teach them a lesson on how to behave.
There are plenty of options available to you if you have a problem with a certain thread, post or forum member: e-mail a moderator, or send a private message (either to a moderator or to the poster who's making the offending remarks).
While I understand what you're saying, SB, I really wish you wouldn't resort to name-calling and profanity. Personally, I tend to put more stock in discussions that are more civil and adult.
cut something into enough pieces and you could make something say anything...
I still think that there are too many people acting like twats... and its an issue which , whilst not always a problem... it is persistent
it needs fixing
@exile: don't give in to him just b/c of this thread... in fact i'd say do what u normally do.. more than usual :) a little demonstration of the futility of his threats.
That statement turned me to SB's side. That's just childish and idiotic. I initially didn't really care one way or the other where this went, but I think this is a pretty good example of the behavior he isprotesting.
gawd... Sam... just so you know.. I dont even bother reading your dissections...

If you don't bother reading my post, then you don't have the right--or the knowledge-- to criticize it or accuse me of taking your statements out of context.
I split your post into separate pieces because I'm responding directly to various points you made. If you can't be bothered to read the response just because it's too big, then I think you're part of the very problem you're talking about.
I'm not sure why you felt the need to tell me you didn't read my post. If you don't read it, just ignore it and move on. There's no need to tell me.
Basically, in a nutshell, you talk about how you don't insult people, and you respect people here, and yet you skip over posts that you're too lazy to read. As for calling people names, I've seen you do that on many occasions. You've slung quite a few insults in this thread alone. And the fact that you say you don't "insult people directly" doesn't make it any better.
You've made threats in this thread as if you were the owner of the forum, which you're not. While it's nothing personal, I'm glad you're not in charge of this forum, because if you were, I can't imagine the chaos that this forum would become. You get too emotional and don't seem to be able to make decisions without getting angry--and that's not someone I'd want to run a forum.
SB is taking this hijacking bullshit WAY TOO SERIOUSLY!!
Maybe so, but hijacking threads is pretty rude. While he may be overreacting, he's got a valid point when it comes to thread hijacking.
However as a member for the past few years, I HAVE seen a rapid decline in kindness, etc. Its not as bad as oohhh, the UT2k3 forums where people are constantly flaming and cursing, but it isn't anywhere NEAR as fun as it was while at the Sierra forums/while boycotting sierra....
I must not be that bad!
well, to be fair, he did say "Hijackers unwelcome" thats kinda asking for it. (Like posting a topic named "Test...Ignore"
This is, again, where I disagree. Just because someone asks for people not to hijack his thread, that doesn't give anyone the right to do so.
It's like saying that when people put "Don't Walk on the Grass" signs on their lawn that they're giving permission to walk on the grass. It doesn't work that way.
Also SB, don't take these Hijacked topics too serious. I have many time posted something I dream off, and they have ended up full of SPAM. For example, my thread of the YZF 600R ended up people talking about flying cars and how they want to kill people. I can't remember me complaining about it.
And Aurora SF, I hope management will bee forgiving with you becuase you're future here doesn't look to bright with posts as your last one.
PS. I think Samuelk quoted SB quite good actually, because over at the Bioware forum I said "We don't need music in games? That's just bullshit." and a guy quoted me "We don't need music in games!". He started to flame me that music is very important in games and etc. etc.
Ok.you're right...my last post is "too much" but it is EXTREMELY irritating when somebody makes TOO big problem about hijacked thread...
Well, what would you say is "too big problem"?
It depends on the thread, what's written, and the nature of the hijacking. The majority of "hijacking" is often just moving a bit off subject or temporary, and often takes place because the topic of conversation has lost its appeal. Hijacking like this happens all the time, and it's not a big deal.
However if I create a thread concerning something important, serious, or about something that I value, (say I make one about an Airsoft Weekend I went to), write in length about it, and someone tries to hijiack it, it's my, the thread creator's right, to make a big deal out of it. (However, I think SB took this a bit too far.)

Morden

Hello Mr Moderator. I'm Mr Administrator. I'm above you. This place is not about spamming or any of the related activities. Sure, we get it occasionally, just like every other place. That doesn't mean we like it, and it sure as hell doesn't give you the right to go around encouraging people to spam, even if you are a moderator in two boards, neither of which are this one.

well, to be fair, he did say "Hijackers unwelcome" thats kinda asking for it. (Like posting a topic named "Test...Ignore"
No, it's not. It's completely different. Particularly with your example. When someone posts something saying "test", they quite clearly don't care what happens to the thread after their little test is complete. When someone posts a long, serious post and asks that people don't hijack the thread, they care about where the thread goes.
well...my opinion is if someone is so fucking asshole and wants to inform that hijackers are unwelcome then it is my duty to hijack the thread..why?cause i hate assholes and that is why i hate myself...if someone is so fucking stupid that cares if his/hers tread is hijack...they will get what they deserve...and they give me a very nice reason to be asshole
You're new here, so let me explain it to you once.
This place is not like most other forums on the net. This place was founded as a community of people with a common goal. It grew out of that into a strong community of people who believe in the sort of ideals illustrated in, among other places, Babylon 5. This place is a community of intelligent people who come here to hold intelligent discussions, plus the occasional aardvark-based diversion. This place is not about throwing around rubbish. It is not about spamming. It is not about flamewars. It is not about "hijacking threads". If you want to do that sort of rubbish, I suggest you go find another forum where they enjoy it and do it there.
That goes for a few of the others here as well.

Ok.you're right...my last post is "too much" but it is EXTREMELY irritating when somebody makes TOO big problem about hijacked thread...
He has good reason to be. I saw what you did in one of his threads.
Now, on the issue of thread hijacking: There is a difference between what normally happens here (known as the Firstones effect) where threads tend to get off topic within a page of the first post. This is a gradual evolution of the conversation, it happens naturally. It is different from going into a thread and posting "Aardvark" or similar with no regard to the original intent of the thread. I have seen this happen recently. People have good reason to be upset if that happens to their thread. If you don't have anything worth saying in a thread, don't post in it. You don't have to post in every thread on the board.
