Haha! Exile is an 8-year old AOL user. You fools. AOL users use excessive exclamation points, and abbreviate everything. I'm just a regular old spammer.
Seriously, though, without the spamming (I am not joking when I say 99 Red Balloons has been stuck in my head 24/7 for at least a month), I think Linkin Park's Runaway, or almost any of their songs, fits me. The last track on Meteora, about the undertow, as well.
You they perhaps would see as a traitor, but me I don't know. Soviet contolled everything all the way to germany, but finland was lucky and could stay independent. Still most of the world beleaved than Finland was part of the sovietunion.
The Finnish history with the Russians is long and complicated and that's why I won't give you the whole thing, but it's still a interesting history

Really? I thought the limit of Soviet influence ended at your eastern border. But I see what you mean geographically, Russia DOES look like it *should* go all the way to Norway.
Yes, the Soviet influence stoped somewhat at our eastern border, but if you got someone as big as soviet that near you, you can't feel totaly independent. Finland was left alone because we did alot what soviet said and they wanted to keep us as a window to the west world. Finland did also a military contract that said if we were attacked by someone soviet had to help us, but we didn't have to help soviet in the same scale.
Soviet also didn't let us join the Noridc Alliance even though it wasn't really a military alliance.
Finland also made some nice contracts with Soviet industry so Finland became welthier. That's one big issue why we joined the EU and EMU in such a hurry after the fall of Sovietunion, to keep up our import/export.
I can write you the whole history since 1900 - 1992 in compact mode if you want to read it.

As national anthems go, I think the French have the best.

Did you know that the Soviet anthem got it's roots from the Brittish anthem?
Sorry I missed this earlier BTW.
Which one? We traditionally have three; God Save the Queen, Rule Brittannia and Land of Hope and Glory, the latter by Edward Elgar. The Soviet anthem sounds most like LOHAG, especially in its emotiveness and soaring crescendos.
Damn, I can't stop listening to the Soviet National Anthem! (Fantastic piece of music...)
Yeah, La Marselleise or whatever it is, is alright, but it gets kind of cheesy after a while, and isn't a scratch on Land of Hope and Glory or the Soviet Anthem.

OK! I'll write it, and I'll probably make a webpage out of it. Still don't expect it anytime soon, 1900 - 1992 is a long time and alot did happen.
I actually wrote a paper on russian-finnish history in school...
I was quite, quite in love with history. Got my best grades from it (and english, yes, hard to imagine). Even though I specialised in the ancient history and myths I had some passion for the 20th century.
Wars and so on.
And ofcourse, the finnish history.
Alas, the paper is unfortunately stacked somewhere else with the relics of my past long forgotten.

I've always loved British Military History, it's definately my favorite area of historical study. (Particular the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879.)
How does one get some sleep when in dire need? I have an exam in 6 ½ hours and I have to wake up in 3 hours in order to be in time (and do the excercises I have to do every morning starting today and ofcourse eat, shave and shower)

It's chinese, but still. Enjoy.
(I recommend you to see a movie, Beijing Rocks too)
(Although we'd probably been branded traitors if we were doing this 20 years ago.) ;)

I mean, we don't have to keep on studying russian even though there's not a single time you would actually need to speak it.

If only I'd have that fucking exam in Järvenpää instead of länsivantaan aikuislukio.. I could wake up 10 minutes before the exam! :(

Thanks Morden279, but no thanks. I have a hard time drinkin' the white stuff as it is already. Not interested in trying it warm. :)
