Looking for a racing game...

I'm looking for a racing game. I have only treadmarks, while fun, sometimes I want street racing fun.
In style of ohh, Ridge Racer for the N64/PS2, or RedLine Racer for the PC.
main thing is racing only, good graphics, fast cars/bikes, and RL settings, such as cities, or roads. NOT race tracks, too repetative, etc, dull. I like Ridge Racer the best, gets you from big city to beachside drives and back....
any suggestions? looking for a PC game BTW.

The latest NFS game (NFS:Hot Pursuit 2) is quite fun, but I have the PS2 version and I've heard the PC version isn't anywhere near as good.
in fact...

these guys, whilst sick of racing games have made some good stuff based on thier propriatary engine
I'd have to say one of the more realistic driving games I've played with. It's pretty old, but new enough to support a force feedback wheel if you have one. Matter of fact I believe it was packaged with some of Logitech's wheels.
Some of Ratbags games are pretty good. Their WOO (World of Outlaws) game is one of the hardest simulators I played when set to professional (no driver aids).

hopeing they have the feel of Redline Racer, I LOVED this game, but it doesn't work on WinXP. :( (MAJOR bummer there, I LOVED redline racer. Critterion Studios doesn't even have it listed as a game it made anymore, and Ubi Soft (The Publisher) doesn't either. :(
*Sigh* BEST game ever. off road, high speed motercycle action. (OK, some were on road)
I've really enjoyed Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. Really fun game, with questionable physics. But, I've really enjoyed it so much.
The physics may be questionable, but I prefer that to ultra-realistic. If I want driving that feels real, I'll go for a drive in a real car.

EXACTLY! thus Redline Racer (VERY Arcady, I mean, your driving Superbikes in snowy conditions up (Then down) a mountain in one track. :) or along a beach....and getting good traction. LOL)

Well, while it may be possible to pull 120mph on a residential road in NZ, here it isn't ;)
I'm just a fan of realistic physics. IMHO, it's a lot more fun to drive when you can use real-life experience in understanding how the car will react to a given condition.
"Live for Speed" (not Need For Speed; google it up) comes to mind as doing this perfectly. Realistically simulates car performance and handling, and it's interaction with a given track condition. Being able to use weight transfer to your advantage rules :D
Anyway, another game, one of my all-time favorites, is Re-Volt. You might not even be able to buy it anymore, but it came out way back in the day, and was a pure and simple fun R/C Racing game. It's just so rediculously fun at times. The tracks are very creative and the wweapons just plain nuts, but so fitting. If you can find it, get it. And even though it's some five or six years old (Maybe 7), it's fantastically good in the graphics department. Nothing is more fun than a clockwork match :D
Also, as was said, Porsche Unleashed. It's showing its age, but that doesn't make it less fun. Great variety in tracks, lots of cars (mmm...914...), and some really fun multiplayer (Although everyone seems to alway sget these annoiying supercars online. Ruins most good games when they tune the gears of their GT2 Le Mans to best your poor 356.
As for Porsche Unleashed, that's heaps of fun. I think it looks better and plays better than HP2. It's really cool to be able to watch the individual suspension at work, see the car lean as it goes around corners, etc. Plus the scenery is really really nice. :)

But, it has some massive system requirements, whereas Porsche Unleashed will run pretty well on a number of systems.
NFS5 is simply the result of a car company trying to replicate it's history realistically, and it works so well. I just love the headlights on the 914 so much. I wish I could get some sleepy-eye drifter action, but that'd require some fun scripting. That car is my all-time favorite Porsche, though (Doesn't or didn't one of the devs also have one, at some point?)
Worf
and he still has his.
Voodooooo Voodooo

I just cant get that song out of my mind.
I have not played very many racing games. I cant remember the last one I played, lol

weight trasnfer is indeed fun.
drifting with it is even funner :)
(this is the ONLY racing game where you can drift realisticly, that i know of)
