This kinda reminds me of how the generator industry took off here a few years ago. :)

Officially? Well, basically "anything except terrorism" (I especially liked when someone said "we feel there is no reason to panic at this time." I was waiting for them to tell us to panic :p)

I think the current theory is that a power station in New York was overloaded by airconditioners etc. and went down, which stressed the next closest power station till it went down, and it rippled from there. Fun...

I thought the American grid prevented that sort of "domino effect" from happening by utilizing cut-off switches and back-up generators?

So did I. And I'm curious as to why it didn't stop at the border, the news still doesn't seem to have any answers.

Hmm, perhaps we should just blame it on the Aardvarks...

Here in Sweden, the newspapers say that it was a lightning strike.
• Funny...

Well, at least New York (and the eastern sea-board) will get it's power upgraded/add new stations, etc.

We already got ours (California) upgraded... since our crisis a few years back. heh

Funny how they don't have the amibition to start doing all this on their own.... until something breaks down. lol

Oh, and, btw... I ALSO heard or read somewhere, that it was a lightning strike that caused that whole mess.

Best source for information, www.drudgereport.com . This site compilies all the best news stories where you can view them. Broke Monica Lewisky a month before any one else even started talking about it. Current theory sounds like a fire broke out at one of the plants, that one failed, causing a cascading falure which rippled into Canada and most of the EAst coast. Thats at least what it sounds like. To me, alot of good will come out of this. Help us be more prepared for this type of thing.
• An interesting footnote is that vermont was practically untouched due to better technology on the grid and a little bit of luck.

'Cause that isn't profitable. This is the problem I have with treating things like water and electricity like commodities. It defies basic logic to try and run a supply of a limited and necessary resource as a profitable business. How do we expect people to cut back on power usage if companies are going to push them to use more so they make more money?
Sorry for the mini rant, but the power situation in this country is totally fucked up since it was deregulated some years ago.

That's because Vermont gets a lot of it's power from Quebec :p
