Rogue Trader... which G4 PB was it? 15" model? If so they've had issues alright with hinges. I've never seen on with a bad hinge though. Using the new 17" PB is so cool, the hinge is very smooth and fluid (don't own one though, just tried a display one, fantastic machine!).

On pc labtops, I've read that Dell have a 28% return rate on their labtops. Pretty high really!

We've had a couple of new in the past year Toshiba labtops that have come in with motherboard failures so we've stopped recommending them to staff. Sony Vaio's are now recommended over Dell's, but its a bloody pain they way Sony deal with the drivers and support software.

Sanfam... those 'cracks' in the Cubes were only lines from the moulding process. I had a good close look at one once and could see the lines. From a casual glance it looked like a crack, but it wasn't. For me it wasn't a problem but I suppose if you look hard enough and spot what you think is a crack then your gonna see it all the time.

Oh and Sanfam which iMac was it used with that boat? Have they never heard of Ebay???? A decent iMac case in good condition will fetch £50+ over here ($80 US maybe). I'm looking out for one to turn into a fishtank. I already have an old Mac SE30 cleaned and ready for its tank.

And for those of you who are going to say thats all that macs are good for.... take a running jump!

The problem with Dell laptops is that their cases are very flimsy.

As for the Cube, the moulding process for transparent perspex produces heaps minute cracks in it. Usually you can't see most of them unless you do something like shine a certain light through (I think it was flourescent, cause of the part of the spectrum it procuces or something).

Yea i got the 15inch PB. The hinge problem i have been aware of for a while, and i expected that to happen down the line. but i thought the hinge would break or just crack or be crappy. but i didn't think it would be pryin off the monitor casing.

Well, Sony makes quality machines at a price to match :D

Yes, I know of this, but it was often thought poorly of and was one of the major PR losses of the cube (Which holds a place as my favorite apple design, and ranks up there with my favorite case designs as a whole)

It was an original-style run iMac (Can't remember the speeds at the time, but weren't they the Indigo iMacs or something?) that someone fried. So, they threw it off their boat.

I've got a small collection of Classics and SEs building up here. I was thinking of porting the SuperDrive and spare 40 meg HD from the Classic w/SuperDrive to the SE/30 and then install System 7/7.5.5

Now, if only I had a Color Classic. That would top them all.

• Macs are eeeeeeeeeeeeevil. I have suffered through Windows ME for the last two years (Ending this week), and despite all the Disk Write Errors, random program errors, numerous System Restores, and such, I still love Windows. I love it I love it I love it. I could just run up and give Bill Gates a big hug. I'd shoot him afterward for ever so much as dreaming of ME, but only after I gave him that big hug for XP. AND 3.1!
• Rogue TraderRogue Trader Somebody stop him...
XP looks like shit, weird color design IMO
• Yeah, I hate it too, but you can download new visual styles online. My friend made an awesome one, so I'm usin' it. When I build my baby. :D

Don't you just love fanatics?
• I hate 'em. ;)

Really tho, aside from the bastard child of Microsoft, which should never have seen the light of day because it only gives anti-Gates fanatics some ultimately pointless argument against Windows (AKA Windows ME), I love Windows. It has problems and bugs, but I rarely experience them, and when I do, I never have any problem resolving them. And if you knew my sister, you would know how much of a beating she delivers to my PC. She has downloaded "songs" off of Kazaa that were .exes, deleted a good portion of our Windows directory, managed to SOMEHOW uninstall Internet Explorer, and just generally been a fool.
Windows gives me everything I want, and I give it my love, affection, and hugs. Frequently. I find that rewarding my PC for resolving problems quickly provides positive reinforcement, so it gives me less problems. It's a beautiful system.
• Rogue TraderRogue Trader Somebody stop him...
how in the hell did she uninstall IE?

is that even possible?
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I don't hate windows, but I wouldn't say I love it. I certainly wouldn't call it a beautiful system, but that's probably because I know how it works internally.

To this day, I'm still not sure...

Just wow. Wow. is your sister blonde, could be an explanation :D :D

95Lite/Win98Lite/XPLite

Lets you remove components such as IE for faster loading/smaller size. I'm gonna take a chisel to a 95 installation soon and see if I can get it to fit onto a CD or CF card. boot system to RAM from CD, play music stored on HD. Hopefully, boot times of under five or ten seconds, and no damage to the OS in the event of an abrupt power off. Easy to load files, via use of networking. I wish the playtoy wasn't *lost*, though. It was shoved in a drawer, and has not been seen since :D

Sanfam... a friend of a friend has apparently got Win95 down to 5mb... there was a news item about it on BBC's news website. I can dig out the url for you if you like?
