There have been a number of interesting quality problems with the latest generation of Apple products. Some have been fixed, and some have not. Things ranging from poorly designed component support on the first generation Snow iBook frame, fadin/peeling "Titanium" paint on the edge of First-gen TiBooks, keyboards on first-gen iBooks that would bend if the computer got too warm, ejection problems on second-gen slotload drives, and the somewhat known, but totally disregarded problem involving the latest model power connector apple is using, the rubber insulation of which will eventually break and cause non-functionality.
If you've got applecare, you're safe, but otherwise, prepare to shell out big bucks for repairs. It's like the cube's problem with cracking in the plastic, or the clamshell iBook handle plastic cracking off (oops). Great visual design, that just needed a bit more testing in the real world before release. It's just rediculously expensive to fix, but could have been solved by some real-world testing.
You might also want to take a look at your power adapter while you're bitching.

G4 powerbooks use the same adapter as dual usb ibooks, and ibook users at least have been having pretty regular problems with that adapter. I'm currently studying for mac portables technican certification, after some brain dead idiot tech over there fixed my poor laptop wrong five times in a row...ack...
If there's one thing any owner of a laptop of any kind should have, it's a warranty. Preferably one that goes for longer than a year. Laptops still have many proprietry parts, and getting them fixed or replaced will always cost far too much.
and lurker shut your mouth.

Maybe that's why they call him "thatdamnlurker"
:D
Plus, he's a she, and she knows what she's talking about. :D So many fun fun little discoveries of the "quality" work done by Apple techs...
Sanfam has been abducted by mutants seeking to exchange his RNA with that of a carrot! Save Sanfam!
Is that why you think like a carrot? :D
First, Simmonds, just plain shut your mouth when you don't know what you're talking 'bout. :D Back on topic now...

IT was a Joke, Idoit.

Thin ice. :D
BTW, anyone know the link to that Mac video? I love that... but I lost the link =\
I agree with him, too... when you complain that your Mac is screwed up, you should be complaining that you're screwed up. YOU BOUGHT A MAC, FOR GOD'S SAKE!

Such hatred.... At least he's not complaining about Windows, say, erasing his hard drive. Not that I've ever heard about things like that happening.
So tell me, is reinstalling your old OS as exciting and fun as installing a new one? I've always wondered. ;)
(An except, which I probably mangled)
"Shutting stuff down on your Mac? That's simple. It just shuts down by itself. You don't have to press any buttons, tell the Mac to do anything. You don't even have to think about it! Oh, but shutting down the Mac, that's another story..."

Shutting down a Mac. Well, let's see. That can be tricky.
In Mac OS 9 and earlier, when you want to shut down your Mac, you would go over to the "Special" menu (that's on the top, near the middle), scroll down past "Empty the Trash" and "Restart" to the bottom of the menu, where it will say "Shut Down". Click that. Now, here's the tricky part. On most Macs, you do that, and the machine will shut itself down. Now, there are some older Macs where, instead of shutting itself down, it will display a black screen with a dialog box which says, "It is now safe to turn off your Macintosh" with a little button marked "Restart" if you hit the shutdown option in error. If you see this dialog box, you must lift your hand to reach over and push the power button on the computer. It won't work if you push the power button on the keyboard (which, incidentally, will shut down your computer if you have one of those wonderful machines that don't require you to push an additional button).
Now, in Mac OS X, things are different. You must go to the apple menu (that's a picture of an apple, it doesn't say "Apple") go down to the entry second from the bottom, which will be "Shut Down". And since all the Macs that can run OS X don't need to have their power button pushed to be turned off, you're finished! Now, give yourself a pat on the back for finishing such a difficult, Herculean labor.
To summarize:
1. Go to "Special" or apple menu.
2. Select "Shut Down"
3. Push power button (if applicable)
4. There is no step 4.
Jesus, that's so difficult, no wonder someone might have trouble with it! It's nothing like the simple, logical intuitive leap to go to the "Start" menu to shut down a Windows machine!
If you like, I can explain in my next post how every Macintosh since the mid eighties has had the ability, out of the box, to take screenshots that are automatically saved to the desktop, so you don't have to stop whatever you're screenshotting to paste your screenshot into a graphics program and save it. Hell, we don't even need a "Print Screen" button!

Yes they do, I just forgot to add one.

lol, I've only used a Mac long enough to know I hate it, (And it was my first PC, not counting a C64, so I was unbiased by Windows' awesomeness) but not long enough to remember much of anything about it. Funny video, most of it is true, maybe that excerpt was wrong, more likely I butchered it, mac.wmv if you're interested.
