Abit's always been a great company for hardware enthusiasts.

Ever since my BE6-2, I've been a fan of Abit's motherboards, right up to the KX7-333 I have now.

From the looks of it, it's a way to hardware-encrypt your hard drive. The square device in the picture goes between the hard drive and the motherboard, and there's a cable that runs through the back of the computer. You fdisk/format your drive with a certain setting so that it's encrypted. Afterwards, the only way to access that drive is by plugging a physical key of some sort into that cable that came around the back of the computer.

Supposedly, if someone doesn't have the key, they can't read the drive, even if they remove it from your computer and plug it into another one.

this would prevent only people who have physical access to the drive to see whats on it?

    not just physical access...

Well, my assumption about it is basically that it encrypts *ALL* data coming in or going out to the IDE bus with the supplied key. As was said, the drive would probably have to be re-partitioned and formatted, as the module would probably be actively altering all data, including the boot record and partition information (And if it were applied after setting up the drive, would be mangling said information). The device is probably (And if it isn't, should be) completely transparent to the user. Just plug the key in and go.

You're not actually expecting to get it, are you?

    Nice.

Now if A-bit would just solve their problem by stop buying cheap components, I might actually get one of those.

(they've had a history of problems with bad capacitors)
