Need help with UT

I saw Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition in the store for $10 and I bought it. I installed the game without a problem and I patched it to the newest version. (436 I think) Anyway, it detects my video card and says it is compatable.

But when I start the game it goes black and nothing happens. I waited 5 minutes and still nothing. So i hit Ctrl Alt Delete and it won't even bring me back to my desktop. It just sits there. Nadda. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

System specs

P4 1.3 Ghz
384 MB RD RAM
32 MB NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX 400
Direct X 9.0
Windows XP Professional

try going to UT/System folder and deleting User.ini and UT.ini, then restart the game

t_e: Consider yourself warned. I wouldn't try that again if I was you.

Space Ghost: I had that exact same problem on my old computer (P3 500, GeForce 256 DDR). I can't remember exactly how I fixed it, but I know that it had something to do with whether I used OpenGL or DirectX and having the most up-to-date drivers for the one that I used.

I have to agree with along the lines of what biggles is saying. Make sure you try switching between display modes, or if possible, see if running without acceleration will work (if Im making any sense). UT is so great, enjoy it!

Does it do the same thing with both OpenGL and DirectX?

also try the software renderer, its not quite as good as DX, but still good.
