It's a well known fact that the Omega is inspired by that ship.

I don't think it's that well known when me neither knew that.

I'm sure someone else here must know that.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I did! :D

There we go. There's now a balance!
• Screw your balance, I didn't know that. :D

I knew it. Knew it before I saw the movie, in fact. It was posted on this very board (or one of her predecessors).

I remember reading about it. :)
• I knew that, but I never realized how strong the similarity was.

Everyone knows Al Gore came up with the rotating midsection.

It's been posted many times, if I recall correctly.

This concept has been used many times in science fiction. 2010 was the first mainstream movie that I know of to represent it, though.

But yeah, the inspiration of the Omegas from the Leonov has been posted here several times.
• JackNJackN Lightwave Alien
Ok...

A bit of trivia now...

Who was the concept artist for the Leonov?

:D

* and No, it wasn't Al Gore...*

Sid Somethingorother.
• Dont know the answer to that but I do know this one and one other....

The Spacesuits that were used in War Without End parts I and II were from 2001 (the original, not 2010)...:)
• Did you know that the Babylon 5 Omega, which was inspired by 2010's Omega, also shares the same name? :D

Its the sequel to 2001

I'd recommend watching it. While not anywhere as groundbreaking as the first, it is still a good sci-fi movie. Then good out and read the books (2001 & 2010)

Wing commander prophesy has one of the best soundtracks ever! I mean Rammstein, Cobalt 60, Die krupps, Das Ich, KMFDM and Juno Reactor. Thats a long list of good bands.

Wing Commander was a cool movie
• I read it from here :D

The gravity in space thing cracks me up every time.

Yep, I push the disabled fighter off the deck (how in the world it was just resting on the deck in the first place is another question) with a bulldozer looking thing with four wheels (yet another question about the physics of the situation) and THE SHIP FALLS OFF!!! It just doesn't float away, it falls downward!!! Then they act like the pilot is never to be recovered, when actually, shouldn't the disabled fighter be just off of the transom of the ship???

There were a couple cool points about that movie. One was basing the interior of the ships on current naval vessels. That gave the areas like the bridge a much more cramped, realistic feel than the open bridges like in ST (a waste of space) or even some of the ship's bridges in B5.

Another interesting part of the WC movie was the pilgrim backstory, which could make an interesting movie in and of itself.
