What I find funny is that after all that, he STILL doesn't know if he wants to keep the kitten or not...
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I would.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.

• Damnit, the story is so 'cutesy' and 'emotionally uplifting' that I can't make a joke about it...

Oh well, cats don't taste good, anyways.
• WHYWHY Elite Ranger
My god... that *IS* cute !

Thats a hell of alot of work for a kitten. Very cool that he would put that much effort into it.

This reminds me yesterday, I was watering a pine tree in our back yard, when I saw something that looked like a rat squirming around in the water. I stopped the water and got it out (using a shovel, because by the time I got to it it looked like it was dead. As soon as I lifted the shovel up, the thing started breathing and kinda wheezing. Took it into the shade (it was something like 115 degrees Farenhiet in the sun) and then noticed the thing had huge ears. Turned out to be a baby rabbit whose hole must have been dug in the tree well. Carried the little thing back up to the tree and set it down in the shade, where it would be found by the family of rabbits that has taken to living in our backyard. I hope the thing made it, it was moving around when I left. I also hope it was the only rabbit in the hole, it really made me sad to think I had accidently drown a bunch of baby rabbits... :( :( but that one made it, so I think it was probably the only one in the hole at the time.

That is so cool. JMS rules.

Rhett: The end of last summer, I was firing up the smithy. going around looking for all my material and hammers, thongs, stuff I hadnt used for a couple of weeks cuz we had closed off the smithy during summer. All of a sudden, butterflies started coming down from the chimney, some on fire, and almost all covered in soot (cuz we use hard coal to get the temperature up). I havent felt that bad in years, cuz Ive made myself a pledge not to kill *anything* (yes, that includes mosquitoes, and Im not religious in any way if you think so). I can understand your feelings about those baby rabbits.
• RhettRhett (Not even a monkey)
Yeah, I felt like shit, because you know, they're baby rabbits... But, I saved one, and it wasnt intentional, so that kinda made me feel better. But, now I gotta find a new way to water the tree...

Actually, it isn't. You have to live with one to know what I'm talking about but it isn't. :) It's the right thing to do, that's all.

But that sure IS cute. :p Way to go JMS.

Oh, I live with two cats- I can understand the want to save the kitten. But 18 hrs of work is a little more than the average person would put into it... Plus, its alot more money.
• I have 2 cats as well. We've replaced our screen door a couple times this year, as well as a few pieces of clothing, because they rip it. We find a surprise of either puke a dead rodent on our floor almost every day. We can't leave clean clothes out, because they lay on the and cover them in fur, and we spend a good quarter of our day letting them in. And out. And in. And out. If that were my cat, I would have filled the pipe so it's suffering would go by more quickly. I've never tied a firecracker to a frog or anything stereotypical like that, but I don't bear any special love for animals. I just seems hypocritical to me that people would spend money to save a rabbit or cat because it's cute, and then go buy some beef from the store. Either go join the idiots at PETA (Millions of animals are killed every year in combines while grain is harvested), or give up on animals, IMO.
Nothing personal against you guys, I think the personality disorder threat took away any right I've ever had to criticize other people... :(
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I would have put in just as much effort, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. There's a difference between domesticated cows on a farm and a helpless animal that's trapped in the dark and wet, inside a pipe, under ground.
• One word pretty much describes my feelings toward the whole issue: Meh. I'm tired of hypocrisy, I think I'll go sleep now.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Well, I'd have done just that. Perhaps even more. I could not live without my cats, and were I to stumble upon one in such a situation, I couldn't bear to live with its death in my mind.

In the past, actually, I rescued some five kittens from a house which the owner had abandoned. In total, there were probably upwards of 15 cats, but out neighbors at the time took care of them. The poor kittens had been left to fend for themselves in an absolute mess of a house, without food or water. It was just horrible.
We ended up giving three more of the kittens to someone else, and took care of the remaining two on our own for a while, giving the pair to a family friend. Now, though, I don't know where they could be...

Mr. A Monkey, I agree and more.

WTF?!?!?!
• WHYWHY Elite Ranger
It's from Excel Saga, an Anime that spoofs.... pretty much everything, including most Anime.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
And itself. In the first episode, the cast undertakes to kill the guy who draws the manga upon which it is based. :D
And then there's the fact that one of the main heroes falls dead every five minutes, the dead foreign labourer is having an affair of some kind with the galactic spirit, some guy with an afro keeps being chased by men in suits, and Excel herself keeps an emergency food supply in the form of a small dog.

That clinches it; I'm now an Excel fan, without ever having seen the anime or the manga.

Fear not Rhett... as an owner of Rabbits, I can tell you that they are quite ingenious engineers when it comes to their burrows. Like gophers, they build connected chambers, and if there were any more in there, they were up at a higher level thatn where the water ran off into during drainage... ;)

Had I found a cow stuck in a pipe underground, I would try to rescue it, I still eat meat. Theres a lot of difference between making an animals life nice, and eating it after that life is through.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
That too. You'd have a hard time finding a farmer who wouldn't rescue a cow that was stuck in a creek or something, even if they knew they would send that cow to the works in a few years time.

Shoot, could have saved time by using a hook, line, sinker, and small peice of bait.

yes, it would have a small hole in its mouth, but it would heal up. :D
