The Unstoppable Mr. 'K'
in Zocalo v2.0
I love being able to magnify or slow down the world around me to study details that we otherwise miss.
I've been playing around with my digital camera, especially with the macro and high-speed settings. These pictures were taken with a shutter speed of 1/250th of a second.
This one is my bathroom faucet:

It's a Canon Powershot G3.
I moved to that one from a Kodak DC280. I absolutely love the G3. While it does have a fully automatic "point and shoot" mode, you can take manual control over just about everything, from the aperature, shutter speed, focus and flash intensity.
Most of the pictures I posted have been reduced by 30% of the original image (though the first one is actual size, just cropped).
IMHO, Canon and Sony are the two best brands on the market right now outside of the DSLR realm
Beautiful shots, too! I think I just may post some of my shots, too :D
Very nice pics. How much have you paid for the Cam ?
The price of the camera was about $550 (US).

Well I think Sony is much overrated.
They migh have lot of different models and reputation from other electronics but their biggest problems is Memory Stick which is expensive (over doubleprice compared to CF) and have capasity limited to 128 MB. (with five megapixel it's easy to get images of size of three to four megabytes)
And many of their cameras doesn't have a real wide angle, worst cases are 41mm focal length.
(and none of the models have good wide angle which is like 28mm not 38 or 35)
But back to topic: Great pictures!
E.T.: Personally, I think the memory stick, while not as widespread as CF, is still quite a good format. It's not teribly fast, and yes, there is a 128mb cap, but Sony released a product called the "Memory Stick Duo", which ties together two 128mb cores on one stick. I got mine for $65, which is not bad at all, and now, I can pick it up for near $50 if I look hard enough. If I really wanted a faster, larger medium, I could use memory stick pro, but at the moment, that is too expensive (But, it comes in sizes up to 1gb, and is a good deal faster).
As for the lenses, having had an S75 and upgraded to an F717 after two years of intense use, and I have not seen much of a limitation in the focal length. Perhaps you are thinking of the lower end models?
One of the few problem sI had with my S75 was when using the internal flash and the lens barrel extension. Too many filters would result in a portion of the flash being cut out of the final image at full wide-angle. The External flash solved that (HVL-F1000, I believe). On a related note, a problem related to this was that the S75 did not have a flash hot shoe, as was the case with most Sony cameras of the time. Now, that's changing, but it was indeed a real problem.
:D

Just thinking that model. :D
I have Minolta 7i which has 28-200mm lens and manual zoom, yes it's mechanical! (plus of course "fly-by-wire" focusring)
BTW, Cameras must have support for MS Pro.
(so it doesn't work in older cameras)
And price is tripled compared to CF (512MB, CF 100 euros, MS 320 euros)
At least here in Finland: Memory cards prices in Finland (last column is average price)
Good page for all who are going to buy digicam:

I've got an Olympus 1.3 megapixel digicam, but i much prefer using my Minolta SLR, I do baseball photography, so i wanted i high shutter speed, so i ended up with one with a 1/4000th shutterspeed, It'll stop a hummingbird's wings, or a helecopter's rotors, I need to find some of the helecopter pictures, because its really eerie to see the helecopter there, rotors frozen just hanging in midair (the exact way that bricks don't)

E.T. : I love our nordic winter :)
Is that water or a column of ice? :)
It's water, freezeframed.
The last two pictures look as if he put a champagne flute or some other kind of drinking glas in the sink drain.

That's exactly what it is, A champagne flute, i was just trying to find things that would make interesting effects. I may play around again tomorow, Also i may try and take some with my 1/4000th sec SLR. i dunno what the shutter speed is on my Olympus, but i'm sure its slower than your 1/250th.
Sam: See if you can get a photo of a bee in flight.
I know it's water, I was pointing out in a not-so-subtle way that it looks like ice. :)
