EXCELLENT Half-Life 2 stuff...

If you're like me, then you'll be bookmarking and subscribing to this thread the instant you see the title ;). Anyways, some friends of mine at www.HalfLife2Files.com went to E3, and got a tape of the demo apparently. Or they got it from Gamespy, judging by the logo in the corner. In any case, it showcases some of the best--no, the best--gaming I have ever seen. It's 600+ Megs, so it's split into 12 50 Meg pieces, plus a batch file. I know it seems huge, but trust me, this is well worth it.
Here's the parts:

And just a suggestion before you watch it, you might want to bring a towel. ;)
Seriously, the only way I can explain how awesome this game is, is by going into...
...ROBOT SPAM MODE!
:robot: :robot: :robot: :robot: :robot:
And after you've seen it, comments? Anyone wet themselves while watching the scene with the oil barrels and the pegs? How 'bout them traps? Or the striders... now that was amazing. The one thing I would have liked to have seen that I didn't, was him use that pull gun on the strider's leg to topple him. That would've completely blown me out of my chair. I'm pre-ordering that game now !!

Comments
and yes, this game shall SERIOUSLY rock
main reason I upgraded to a Radeon 9800 (Non Pro) and Athlon XP 2600+
which BTW, I contacted Gabe Newell about. (Hes one of the designers or HL2, head hancho kinda guy, I managed to get his e-mail addy)
he said that my rig would run HL2 with most, if not all, settings turned on.
Happy Day!
I still can't believe that most, if not all, of whats in that video is just the AI...amazing... :)
Worf
I'm getting a new PC sometime in the next month, Radeon 9800 Pro 256Mb, 1024Mb DDRRAM, P4, etc, etc, etc. I was going to wait a while for some better hardware, but this game is coming out in just a couple months, so I have to buy one or two games and beat them, before HL2 completely and totally takes over my life. I probably beat the original... 48,000 times on every difficulty setting, before finally getting tired of the cartoony graphics. That will never happen with HL2. Nothing short of HL3, 4, and 5 will stop me from playing this game until I waste away in my chair.
And now, ROBOT SPAM MODE again. Because Worf upset me :(

Ahh! That explains it! ;)
(Just ribbing you, mate ;) )
Anyway, I downloaded the 25 minute QuickTime file about a month ago frome fileplanet/gameSpy. Pretty frigging cool.
The even cooler part is, according to the..umm...people...I've talked to, it will ship not only with Dev Tools, but also with GameCinema tools for making game-engine movies!
Let the rabid loss of free time begin!

You're not the only one! I'm not really exited about this because of two things...
1: I won't have any money to buy it at the time it's released.
2: I won't get exited about anygame untill I have played them, because of some disapointments I have had.
Seriously, I want to play the game for the game and be surprised by the game, not watch a bunch of lowres shakycam movies of the game and see everything it's got there.

The GameCinema tools make me interested, but I still think the new Vampire: Masquerade game will be better (for those who don't know about it, the game uses the hl2 engine and apparently offers more freedom than Deus Ex...plus I know someone who was on the design team until she left)
Worf
I've seen one movie and 3 screenshots of HL2. I consider myself intelligent enough not to see any more, or I may as well consider myself to have played the game. :)

The resolution on the video could've been better, but it didn't really take away from the video. You could make everything out clearly, I had no trouble seeing anything. It wasn't showcasing the excellent graphics, anyways, so much as the AI, physics, and engine abilities. Totally deformable terrain, meaning you could have one of those Tremors moments where the worm is chasing ya, self-shading character models with 40+ facial bones, etc, etc, etc. If the game is as interactive as it was in the demo, which it will be, then my only fear is that I'll forget reality.
Oh, and about the cinematic tools: they had a scene in the demo where there was this water, and a peg sticking out with a guy on top. Behind him were a bunch of screens: most of them one-panel, but there was a big one made up of nine panels, like 9 TVs in a cube. All the monitors showed the guy on the peg, which the camera was focused at. All of a sudden a headcrab jumped out and made the camera fall over. The screens showed what the camera was seeing--everything sideways. Then they used this gun that can lift objects and throw them. It lifted the camera and started moving it at random stuff, and the screens would show that, the cube acting like one giant TV. Then it shot the camera at the middle screen, which broke. They were saying something about how this involved the cinematic , but I was ignoring them and watch the sweet HL2ness at the time...
I start my first job next week, and I have about $700 from relatives, plus a savings account to dip into. In a couple weeks I'll have enough for an HL2-worthy PC...
I am this close to crying because of what you just said...
