OK, I JUST HAD TO MODERATE SOMEONE'S POST.
"1st of the 1st" found our buda5 temp folder and started posting all our work in progress pictures, some things that haven't even been released yet, and others that aren't even our projects, claiming they were ours and would be released. I'm hoping he found the folder by accident, and i'm seriously hoping he wasn't a BETA tester gone bad. But i needed to let you all know. I would change the name of the temp folder so he can't do it again, but that would mess up a lot of links... if you still think that's a good idea, let me know. This was very infureating.

    Good Logic, you dealed correct with it. And yes, rename the Buda5Temp folder and give him a name that is not so obvious.

    Hey guys. Just dropping by. Saw the post in the main discussion. (If you don't want me appearing in the future, feel free to say so. It is your forum)

    Could you explain the problem in a bit more detail? I could probably have these folders and their contents password protected so this stuff doesn't happen in the future. Having been on projects that suffered from leaks, I understand the problems that can arise, so I'm glad to be of help in this area.

    Just drop me a line either here, on AIM, or ICQ. Or, if you want, tell me to Sod off and I'll be on my way. :D

    here's what i found: he must have typed in [url]http://mods.firstones.com/buda5/temp[/url] by guessing it, or inside information, either one. tho my money's on guessing it... from there you get this:



    so all he had to do was browse thru the folder. in other words he had access to all our work in progress pictures, the new test scenarios, new mod downloads, ship pack, etc... basically everything that was in the temp folder. WHICH MAKES ME HELLA MAD. anyways... i renamed the temp folder devtemp2420. i added the numbers on the end to make it harder to guess. Sanfam, if you post back here saying you can password protect the temp folder, let me know to rename it back to temp (or you can do it yourself) and then protect it. that would be best so links would work still.

    i think i speak for everyone when i say you are welcome to post here any time. in fact i like the fact you check the forum every now and then ;)


    EDIT:
    i think he got the temp folder link from indie's blooper pics in the general forum. so i created a 'public' folder for that purpose and placed indie's pics there, it's all in the announcement at the top of the forum.

    There are no rulers. The only way to overthrow us is to turn us all upside down. Don't ask me how that works :D
    For the Pword/username why don't we just use the FTP logins, or do we need a seperate one for this (I don't know much about this kinda thing so please excuse my ignorance)

    Just a note: any leach program (even gozilla) can pull all unprotected directories from a website. Changing the folder name from temp to temp554433 might foil someone randomly typing but not if they actually try. Placing an index.html in each folder will however prevent the contents from being visible within a browser, though doesn't solve the leach problem.

    yea i figured that, but i'm pretty sure he got the folder name from indie postin screenshots in the main forum that were in the temp folder...

    however.... sanfam, any progress on the password protecting front?

    it would appear we have to leave it devtemp2420 or the password protection doesn't work.

    Sanfam, if you can go in at your leisure, rename it temp, and password protect THAT folder, it'd be much apriciated...

    Okay, and update your announcement please that it's renamed into temp.

    EDIT: it's still protected (I've tried it: You can't get access to it by http).

    it'll work just fine no matter the name. all of this is decided by the .htaccess file in the directory.

    Hmmmm but when it's renamed temp, i try to load a post with a pictured linked to the temp folder, it prompts for the password, but the login and pass u gave does not work.

    EDIT: try it yourself, i'll rename it temp, and adjust the pic in the above post to match, and see what happens....

    EDIT: as i said, the password no longer works.. at least for me. Nor can i type in [url]http://mods.firstones.com/buda5/temp[/url] and use the username and pass. it doesn't work :(

    EDIT AGAIN: Just copied the .access file and opened it with a text editor, there's a line of code that specifies the folder name as devtemp2420, it should be changed to temp and all should work properly me thinks ;) i don't have the auth to do it, so i think sanfam you have to... it should work then tho
