Maxtor 120GB drive on Sale!

Vertigo1Vertigo1 Official Fuzzy Dice of FirstOnes.com
I went to Best Buy yesterday and I spotted a 120gig drive (7200RPM, 8MB cache) for $159....with a $50 mail-in rebate! Thats $109 for a 120gig drive! If you're in the market for a new hard drive, NOW is the time to act!

I'd get one right now, but I don't even fill up 45 gigs let alone 120. :p

I'd get one of those in a second! I'm already close to filling up my 100GB of space.

Hehe. I love being in the industry. Paid less for my Western Digital 120. Don't ask, I can't do it for you.

Industry benefits also allow for the benefit of "Bumpy road syndrome", where items magically fall off trucks every so often. ;)

I've had the benefit of getting a few slightly damaged, but easily repairable components for free or cheap.

Its IDE. Do you seriously think ANY external firewire drive is going to be ANYWHERE near that cheap? :D You pay an extra $100 just for the dinky case alone.

I need to go buy a firewire card (for the iPod I got for my birthday  )
  • BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
My motherboard has onboard firewire. This be a good thing.

If you can, try to get one with USB2 and Firewire combined. They're not all that expensive (well under $50 if you know where to look) and you'll have the best of both worlds.

Yes, USB2.0 is also good, although not as good as Firewire 2.

What's it like? I recently got a hd-based MP3 player myself as a present. It's the original Creative Nomad Jukebox; yes, it's bulkier, probably holds less than yours at 10GB, but I'll also bet that your I-Pod never went on sale for $99...

It is absolutely bitchin. Once you get used to it (about 5 mins of playing around), the scroll pad is extreamly intuitive. As far as sound quality goes, cant tell you yet. :D I should be getting the firewire cards soon (ordered them onnline for 13 bucks each). When I get some music on it, Ill let you know. But so far I am really impressed!
  • Yeah, not being able to put music in it would really crimp my style too :D

IIRC, it'll be a while before thats out. Still, Firewire 1.0 is still bitchin' fast, and USB 2.0 is getting much more wider support than its previous incarnation so, if you don't already, why not have the best of both worlds?

IIRC, the latest powerbooks have Firewire 800 support onboard.

And there are at least two products with that, I think.

Music quality is great for the iPod. I really really really love it. I would highly recommend it!

I have the best of both worlds. My motherboard has 2 onboard firewire ports and 6 onboard USB 2.0 ports. :)

  • BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Yep, that's the one. Great board. It even has two onboard NICs. I don't need two, but I got 'em. :)
