Yeah, that was for Police Quest: SWAT 2 ...

They have no clue as to more updated stuff from Sierra Online/Yosemite Entertainment.

Their data seems to end right about 1998.

I'm talking a little more fundamental than 'dirtying down'. As in the way you approach the whole job... it's all very well to build and absolutely symetric ship and paste on some grunge maps... but what about actually building the ship with the provebial sledge hammer... panels that fit only after you whack em a bit... virtually nothing is 100%... hell one of the cardinal rules you learn doing graphics of any kind is never leave anything 100%, always play with the slider.. enter 99 in the dialogue box...

the same damned rule should apply to the actual model too.

that speck of irreglarity in shape sells that next to impossible last Nth bit of realism..

Sounds like the way I built my Hoplite. I was learning, so nothing was in exactly the right place. Many details are out of line with each other, etc.

I don't remember excluding asymetrical geometry from my comment above. "Dirtying Down" as a term, goes beyond just surface mapping in studio circles, but I guess you just assumed I wouldn't know that.

Come on man, give me some frelling credit!

What you're talking about is EXACTLY what JackN meant by "dirtying down".

Irregularity in shape works to a point. But the simple fact is that most machinery today that is of spaceship scale is made to very standards.

A Starfury today would be, for all practical purposes, VERY symmetrical. That's not the way you "dirty down" the ship. You dirty it down by adding detail (rivets, seams, dents, scratches, etc.).

**EDIT*** Ok, so Jack said essentially the same thing I did. That's what I get for not reading his post, too.
