GIMP I SAY GIMP!!!
In many ways, the Gimp is comprable to photoshop..except, of course, the price.
There is a pretty strong consipiracy theory that says that one of the main reasons OS X for mac requires an app to "carbonized" is so the gimp wouldn't be a straight port, thus giving Adobe time to get Photoshop out.
So, the massively different system arcatecture, memory scheme, and user interface have nothing to do with it?
Besides, why bother? If applications didn't have to be carbonized, Photoshop 6 (and about a billion other programs already out for the Mac) wouldn't've needed an upgrade in the first place and would've worked on OS X from day one, giving it a signifigant head start over Gimp, which had not been ported at the time.
