Seriously though, if you had asked me 4 years ago where I thought I'd end up after getting my degree, I'd have said the US. If you asked me now, the US would be way down the list and would require a confirmed job doing my dream job. I don't think I could live in a country so paranoid that you can be arrested simply for taking photos.
The stuff you read in those articles is not the norm. Try not to judge an entire country from that.
By the way....you can also get shot or stabbed in America! :O
I mean, sure, there are the weird cases like that, but then again, the US is a HUGE country. With a fair number of fruitcakes thrown in for the fun of things... :)

Fetch me a Shrubbery!

shhh, you will ruin our plans!! :shadow1: :D
1 - The first one I admit is odd, however I don't see that anything that was wrong - The FBI has every right to investigate, they've taken a lot of crap for dropping the ball in the past - Yes the woman felt uncomfortable but who doesn't feel strange when law enforcement talks to them?
2 - The second link is rather disturbing - Again the Secret Service and Police didn't do anything wrong - but I'd like to know how they found out about the poster IF that is really all the visit was about.
3 - The third one - The mall is private property - They refused to leave private property - no business owner wants a political cause related to their business in anyway - take your signs to the public street and keep them there - You can't just let people do what ever they want on others property (unless it's public property) otherwise I'm (or others are) going to show up and protest in your front yard. ;)
4 - Number four is very similar to #2.
5 - If true this on looks like a legit case where intimidation was used - It's all hearsay and I'd like to hear the other side of the story. Ah - the dangers of being a teacher at a publicly funded school - better to stay away from religion all-together it was not an elective "religion" class after all.
6 - Looks like the stompers (while showing no respect) were demonstrating their own freespeach.
7 - That's just off that wall.
8 - "self-censorship " Oh please - you all are more than welcome to set up your own networks that don't show the American flag and do whatever else you want.
9 - Until I see better proof of a black list I yawn - I don't believe in this black list - just like I don't believe the govt already has a list of all the gun owners in the US.
10 - Can't get to it.
11 - They need to fire the woman cop - plain and simple. But for this one cop there are hundreds who are doing a good job.

AnlaShok,
I almost never confront a person directly, it’s not my style, but I feel I must step up. You cannot tell me that you could have predicted the events that were to transpire during the President Bush's first term. You cannot have known the events that would befall this nation.
Granted, that while I do not know him personally, I find Bush to be a person who is dedicated to his values, who's real intelligence is undermined by his speech and demeanor and who firmly believes what he is doing is right.
While I did vote for and continue to support Bush, I do disagree with several issues, including his support of the missile defense shield, the limitation of stem cell research, and some of his tax cut proposals, I believe, are just basic trickle down theory.
While you may not agree with his policies, please respect him as person. Trying to question his intelligence is silly, and shows a lack of research in to the person.
And one more question then I'll get of the soapbox, what do you mean by "It will get worse". What will get worse? Will the entire world be plunged into huge world war? Will we loose all our personal freedoms? Please elaborate when you make statements like those.

I did not predict the WTC. I did predict the loss of personal freedoms that has already begun. I did predict the moronic foreign policies that have made our country into the blundering bully of the world. I did predict the return to deficit spending and the further tanking of our economy. I also predicted that we would be at war by 2004. Here is an article I wrote for DemocraticUnderground.com:

Shrub is a wastrel child of priveledge who has always considered himself above the law. His daddy pulled strings to get him past a 100,000 person waiting list and into the Texas National Air Guard where he was assigned to fly obsolete planes that would never be used in Vietnam even if his unit did get called up. That, however, was still too much for him. He lost his flight certification for refusing to take a drug test and went AWOL for more than a year to work on political campaigns for his daddy's friends. All of this is public record, do a search for it. Of course, he calls all of this "youthful indiscretions" and it's good to know I can use that excuse for another few years if I get caught doing criminal things.

And those are the positions he made clear when he ran. SDI and trickle down economics are doomed ventures that will waste billions, if not trillions of our money. His views on stem cells are based on some badly misinterpreted religious principles he claims to hold so he can keep the Religious Right on his side.

Shrub is the spoiled product of a spoiled family, a family that got a lot of its wealth from money laundering for the nazis. Look up George Herbert Walker, Prescott Bush, and Harriman Bank for the information. Their bank had its assets seized in 1942 under the Trading With The Enemy Act.
Every business venture he has tried has failed, with him pocketing gobs of cash. He sold political influence disguised as investments in his doomed companies and profited from influence peddling to get the Texas Rangers (when he was one of their owners) a new stadium by abusing the Eminent Domain clauses in Texas law. He then sold out, making more millions.

What will get worse is the loss of privacy and legal protections from illegal search and seizure laws. People who disagree with Shrub and his puppetmasters are already being called "dissidents" and accused of unti-american behavior and speech. This country was founded upon the ideal of Free Speech. That ideal is being perverted by the new regime here.
