Second I have thought a bit about the marketing of this game. As of now, it feels like only a handful of hardcore fans know that this project exists. That is you people, that post messages on this board. I remember the original ITF forum, that was flooded with posts every day. Then what are we doing wrong with the marketing of this game? I already have close contact with the Swedish PCGamer, but that is not worth much in terms of global marketing. We need to reach those people that are B5 fans, and perhaps doesn't play that much PC games. The people that are 3d modellers, hardcore gamers, modders and game fanatics are only a small portion of the entire targeted group. We need to get in touch with people that doesn't know what "firstones" or "gamingunion" are, and have't played much PC games. I ask you people, do you have any ideas on how we can market this game, so that it will reach the tv-show fan and the average gamer? Swedish PC gamer is a start, but we need articles in PCGamer UK (I did mail them, but no response) and the American PC gamer. Also the people of Russia, Australia and Asia are welcome with ideas on how this game can be marketed in their parts of the world.

The reason I am a bit frustrated is that this may very well be the greatest PC game since Freespace 2, but what good is that, if no one knows about it????? Do anyone know if the B5 fanclub is still with us (www.thestation.com), and do anyone know how to get in contact with JMS? I know he has a discussion forum somewhere, but I have lost the address. I have repeatedly mailed "the lurkers guide", but that bum has refused to add a news flash about this game. He did add one about ITF. Shame on him.

Anyway here are the screenies.

Think about what I said about marketing, and let us know if you have ideas!!

cheers!

  • The offer was made to have them marketed in the UK magazines, but they ignored it - mind you, the legal issue surrounding their use of copyrighted material has suddenly become much more keenly observed, and they're going to have to play ut very carefully indeed.

I've been thinking about this for a long time, don't ask me why... here's what you do:

    1. Many hardcore computer users use IRC for trading warez. They like good scratchware (i.e. Blender). Enter this game.

    2. Once it's distributed among the big four and smaller stable nets you've eliminated bandwidth costs for hosting said game yet managed to distribute it among most of the hardcore community.

    3. Now yer looking to get noticed by Joe & Jane B5 fan, right? Well, that'll all depend on how you've gone about making the game. If you've redefined scratchware as retail-product-for-free, the media'll notice and the game'll get headlines. However, as a "retail product": it's gotta have movies, music, a story-line and at least some voice acting.

    4. Done all the above? Good, the game'll succede.

They're getting into dodgy waters if they are talking about marketing it... word of mouth is safe but as soon as they start advertising in magazines people are going to come knocking and asking questions, whether they are making money off it or not (which they arn't).

ehhh....downloading Freeware stuff isn't warez/piracy/illegal to download from the net...

I mean that the best way is to post on different forums related to science fiction, and maybe send a mail to gamesites on the net. (I myself has posted a thread on the Planetarion forum and EVE Online forum)

What's your point? I stated this game was scratchware and that if it's really good they'll host it whether it's illegal or not.
