    For extra credit, sure. No problem there. If it was required, no. Bad Thing. I'm a bit iffy on the acedemic credit for it, but nobody is forcing the students to write these letters.

    That is pathetic. If you ask me, the assigment should've been on the student's viewpoint, not one particular stance only.

    That is absolutely, fucking bullshit. The teacher should be fired for breach of contract (you aren't allowed to force your viewpoints on students- assuming this is a public school, i didnt catch it).

    She is MANDATING that you MUST hold this view point, that you can not criticly analyze issues for yourself, that her viewpoint is the only valid one.

    The teacher had to apologize and that was it (well- had to renounce the grades and put in different assignments). Still, I think an example should have been made out of the teacher.
