back to the topic at hand....

What makes you think they are overselling???

Why cant you just accept that it might be a better hosting service than Radius? Have you even LOOKED at their website and what they have to offer? Or are you just basing it on the fact that you work for Radius therefor all other hosting services are crap?

I suppose your going to tell me that 30 bucks a year for domain registering is worth the price, when I could easily go to godaddy.com and register a domain for 8 bucks a year?
• StrikerStriker Provided with distinction
Spirit, actually the company is called RadiusCo. :)

$30.00 per year for domain registration is too much now after the Network Solutions monopoly was broken up. We can register domains for $7.99. =)

What makes me think they are overselling? Like I said, look at the prices and what they offer. It's not feasible for a company to do that. I'm not the only one telling you that too! At least 5 others have said the same thing.

Yes, I've looked at their web site. I've been in the industry for over three years and I know who is overselling and who is not. :)

On the "crap" part...like I said we may not be the cheapest, but we try to pride ourselves on customer service.

Have a good day!
• StrikerStriker Provided with distinction
That reminds me, I need to change our hosting plans. They are out of date. :)

Its very simple. They are selling the bandwidth for less then it costs them to buy the bandwidth. If they aren't overselling, they are loosing thousands of dollars every year...and if they are big, hundreds of thousands of dollars...

Of course I will conquor the galaxy before you conquor a world...by conquoring the galaxy I innately conquor your world thus preventing you from ever conquoring it :p
• Ok, lets do this mathimatically..

Assuming that they have 100 customers (and the odds of them having THAT few are very low), at 50gb/month...

that's 5000gb/month

/30days = 1666.66667
/24hrs = 69.444
/60 mins = 1.157
/60seconds = 0.01929 gigabytes per second.

Now, convert that into BITS per second
* 8,000,000,000

= 154320980bps, or 15.43mbps

Now, if a T1 line offering a tenth of that costs about 1,000/mo, and you have 100 people paying $120 month, that's only 12,000, which would only cover the COST ALONE of a single t1 line. No extra money to pay ppl, for equipment, etc.... And you are only at 1/10th of the needed bandwidth. And that's only if they have 100 customers.
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
For some reason I think I used that same argument right at the very beginning...and he still keeps arguing...

hmm

No mention of RadiusCo here, hmm this one either.

I mean seriously, I was just asking a damn question and pointing out my recent experience. You have turned this into a, that place sucks Radius is better because I say it is.

You keep telling me that cant deal with that kind of bandwidth. All Im gonna say is bullshit. Im looking at my manager page right now, Ive had guys downloading stuff off of the ftp all day. Solid connections throughout the day. For the month we are barely nearing 30gb of transfer, and thats a lot for us, but Ive had no slowdowns, and no bad service.

Seriously, pull your head out of your ass and realize your not the best out there. Im not saying infinology is the best. There not even rated the best. Im just saying there are other options that are just as good and/or better.

I pay a lot less than what your charging and it makes me happy.

If you actually went to their damn website you would see they offer a lot more than just 1 pricing plan. In fact they offer everything from simple personal pages to business hosting. I would imagine they can charge less for the small stuff because they have more room to inflate prices for larger hosting plans.

But you never damn thought about that did you?? Especially since now that Im looking at your little page for RadiusCo they dont offer ANYTHING ANYWHERE close to the service I have for the price Im paying. It also doesnt look like they can handle larger business websites. Your servers, are freaking weak little systems compared to what infinology has, I saw no mention of backup power supplies or a guarantee on uptime. Congrats you have a nice fiber connection but...

thats about all you got.

You know, I wouldnt have a had a problem with you guys if you just answered my question without acting like a bunch of dicks who think your little startup company is the greatest thing in the world, and everyone else sucks your cock.

seriously, get a clue.
• SpiritOneSpiritOne Magneto ABQ NM
take a look at www.infinology.com

they got more than 100 customers freak shows.

now that Ive put you back in your place with your small time act. Lets get back to talking about B5.

edit: I think your screwing sanfam on the price of your hosting.
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
Sprit - the fact is they are charging WAY under the cost of the bandwidth that they are providing the customer. That difference in cost has to come from somewhere - and it isn't their pockets. It is the actual bandwidth available. What it's saying that they are charging under 1/6th the cost of the actual bandwidth is that they are going to be giving that full bandwidth to you only if there are 5 other people that are using 0 of their bandwidth (on average).

This means that eventually everyone that is using their services is either (a) going to get screwed with not being given enough bandwidth or (b) is going to be a substantial rate hike with them to what RadiusCo already is at.

Your argument that you get 30GB/month may be fair, but can all clients of theirs do that at once? Based on their cost, the answer is no.

edit: I think your screwing sanfam on the price of your hosting.
Lets see. A T1 costs $800/year on average and is about 60GB/month max rate.

If you're paying $120/year for 60GBs/month, you will not get 60GB/month becuase saturation will be reached well before that. Sure, you might get your full bandwidth at 3am-6am, but during peak hours of the day people will be running real slow on connecting to such a site...
• SpiritOneSpiritOne Magneto ABQ NM
You know, I really enjoyed this site as its been a long time since Ive had an oportunity to sit around and talk B5. But this shit is getting fucking rediculous.

PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS go look at their website for 10 minutes.

I think Im done here.
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
Let me point you to Infinology's pricing page:

http://www.infinology.com/unixwebplans.htm

Notice the bottom one:
30GB/month data rate.
Monthly Fees: (As low as) $167.96/month + 6 Free Month

This is more expensive than RadiusCo.

It would help if you argued something that was even true...Sanfam gets 60GB/month at $85/month I believe...1/4th the price of Infinology.

Sanfam gets everything that Infinology package gives plus more. That plan gives 5 subdomains. Firstones has more then that. He gets more webspace and bandwidth then that site. He gets more support time (anytime Chase is awake, not 5 hours/month!), need I go on?

Spirit:

I have already looked at their web site. As I said in previous posts, they may offer great service, but when push comes to shove, they will go bankrupt if most or all of their customers used their account to its capacity.

Regarding, "putting me in my place" and "my small time act". You are indeed allowed your to express your personal opinion, however, please do so in a respectful and dignified manner.

I am going to post a few links to dedicated servers that offer similar packages to what Sanfam has:

http://www.venturesonline.com/hosting/dedicated.html
http://www.burst.net/servers/
http://www.theplanet.com/
http://www.affordableservers.net/linuxservers.html

You will notice that their bandwidth statistics are more "in line" to the price. These providers offer quality bandwidth and are peered to many providers like we are.

I do not consider my company "a small time act". We run a server grade AMD system that is professionally co-located in a data center in Fremont, CA. The facility has over 20 peering connections in it for bandwidth use.

Actually, we offer phone support up until 6:00 pm CST or so and 24/7 e-mail. Either myself or our sysadmin (Defiant) are usually around to handle things. Between the 2 of us, we cover a 24 hour period fairly well.

We also offer an emergency pager to our clients in case there's a problem.
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
I've been going through more of their site.

For 30GB/month is between $160 and $200/month on Infinology.

Sanfam gets 60GB/month and more features at only $85/month.

Try reading your own proof before using it to say Sanfam's provider sucks...

I am not affiliated with RadiusCo...but frankly your evidence sucks
• LOL...he told me "they got more than 100 customers freakshows"....THAT'S EXACTLY MY POINT...I just used 100 customers as AN EXAMPLE so I could get some hard numbers. If they have more, then they are overselling their bandwidth by an even LARGER margin!

Not to mention that no one so far has been able to find the pricing plan you claim to have, unless you misread month for year, in which case, have fun when the bills come!
• TyvarTyvar Next best thing to a St. Bernard
*sigh* Its all insanity..
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
tell me about it! On a side note, why does bandwith cost so much?

Well, this is certainly interesting reading for when I've just got out of bed. :) Hark! The admin speaks!

SpiritOne: I suggest you watch your tone and language. Noone else here is getting fired up over this the way you are. Calling us "freakshows" is not a particularly nice thing to do. You are blantantly ignoring what people are saying to you, including the evidence they are presenting, and just flaming them and RadiusCo. Also, I don't like the way you are slandering RadiusCo without even knowing that much about them. Please try and adjust your posts to a more civil manner and listen to other people properly, or stronger action will be taken.
