hm.. TNT or voodoo 5 i think (though i'm not sure about the voodoo 5).
I know people have played the game without problems on a P2 300MHz with a TNT2.
btw: There have been errors with the "copyright" system that Fileplanet uses, as far as i know...
If you have problems installing it, you might want to wait until monday and download it from another location then...
I'l have to give the download a try, as long as it runs on a TNT then it'll run on the GeForce256 that i've got at the moemnt.
RubberEagleWhat's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
Yes...i agree, I-war2 is much prettier..the explosions look like they have maybe like 7-8 frames, as opposed to the wonderful ones in I-war2, and espcially in freespace 2...acutally, IMO, FS2 looks better.. The poly counts are really, really low, and it has a washed out feel to the colors
I dunno, it feels like an arcade game..and a B5 mod would be almost impossible unless you put the guns on gimbles because the mouse control, while it works alright for the style that freelancer uses, is not accurate enough for a stationary gun in a fighter vs fighter kind of way. That and I can't bank or go backwards (which feels weird given the FPS style of play, I was circle strafing a weapons platform, a concept that completely defeated the AI). The sound effects don't contribute much to the feel either, as the guns are tinny and arcade-like too.
That and a mini-spolier...would SOMEONE PLEASE come up with a different opening sequence than "mysterious colorful weaponed ships blow up a base"????!!!
Now, for the positive sides. Despite being mouse driven, it does work well since the game was made with mouse control being the focus. Not saying it's what I prefer, but it works. Graphically, it's OK, but not awe-inspiring. Sound wise..it has 3d sound at least.
The planets are kinda fun..graphically, they are kinda low poly in terms of the environment, but the characters look good (not quite Unreal 2, but heck, this is a space sim)...i thought it could have been more interactive than it was, but that's ok.
Overall, it's good for what it's trying to be, but it's an RPG at it's core, not a space sim...something like diablo II in space, or maybe given it's freedom like morrowind in space, but with diablo II paced action.
Has anyone here tried the Rebalance Mod for Freelancer?
There's a number of changes, here's what I can remember.
Trent no longer has his dodgy leather jacket, he's got a better outfit.
You can destroy bases.
There are new mission types, anti battleship missions etc.
You can see 'carrier groups' on patrol, groups of cap ships patrolling a system rather than being static.
THere are a HELL OF A LOT of new ship types you can fly.
Heres a list of what I remember
Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper
Battlestar Galactica Cylon Raider
Hercules Mk II from Freespace 2
Starfury Aurora
Thunderbolt Starfury
X-Wing
A-Wing
Y-Wing
TIE Fighter
TIE Interceptor
TIE Defender
Whitestar
Aliens Colonial Marine Dropship
Centurion Fighter from Privateer
Sith Infiltrator from Phantom Menace
Jedi Starfighter From Attack of the Clones
Arrow fighter from Wing Commander 3
Hellcat from Wing Commander 3
And it's definitely a good game. But I think I already said that, many moons ago.

 not to mention that there is a B5 TC in the works for FL:rolleyes:
and also there'sthis beauty (not the one from rebalance)
Hmm.. the plot.... You got me interested enough to replay the game and I'd give multiplayer a shot, but that said...

It started out good, but I was let down by where they went with the plot:
Oh No!!!! OMG!!! We're doomed, super aliens that will kill everyone!!!!!!!
That is so much better than in-fighting between the factions. :rolleyes:They coulda gone places with the Rheinland-Liberty tensions. Either that or a new conflict w/ the coalition as is implied by the "we will never forget" part of the intro.
Meh.

If I remember Freelancer is a Continuation of Starlancer. And after the Colony ships left earth the Solar system were destroyed by the Nomads.
Spoiler Highlight below
I was a bit disapointed about the super aliens, I was hoping for somthing better then that, not shure what it was. They kinda messed it up when they had Super aliens in I-war II. Also they could have put more missions in the game, around 30 or so.
BTW, spoiler text is a code most other forums with VBB have...why not us? :D
Biggles<font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
Because despite asking many times, noone bothered to tell us how, Spoiler: and I've only just got around to figuring it out. :) Check the vB code help.

Though, what immediately popped into my mind when I saw how gate travel worked was "Cowboy Bebop".
Now if only someone'd make a Swordfish model...
while i respect your opinion, i don't agree ;)
the graphics looked dated in Freelancer
hmm..I have already said it earlier in the thread....
