OK, this may be above a large part of the group, but I wanted some input from the professionals.
What is the ideal development team size, in you humble opinion?
I realize that this varies significantly based on the task (personal task scheduler versus space shuttle guidance software), but, if on your next job, you were tasked with establishing the team and the methodology, how would you go about it?
Let us know

project type (game, accounting, database, etc.)

team size (and what type of people)

methodology (OO with UML, classic waterfall, XP, JAD, etx.)
I'll start:

I'm becoming the team lead for an already-deployed human resources (HR) system. World-wide user community.

There will be 15 developers (3 teams of five), 4 functionals, 4 testers, and other bits and pieces. Personnally, I think this may be slightly too large, but for now its better to have too many than too few.

Unfortulately, its primarily waterfall. The customer gathers requirements from theiir customer, then delivers them to us. I am going to try introducing (stealth mode on! ) XP practices, and see what happens. Should be interesting!
Any other volunteers? This forum has been kinda dying out; might as well try something!
I'd be interested in hearing more on what happended in Oakdale. Also, Milod, if your around, has there been anything that you would change about programming Starshatter solo (other than the pay )?

Or were you thinking Oakhurst?

I find I tend to program best solo but with other people around to bounce ideas off (but not necessarily people working on the project). Having another person in front of the computer with me tends to put me off for general implementation. It's OK if we are trying to solve a bug or a problem though.

Jack: yeah, Oakhurst, that's what I typed. Have those gremlins been changing my posts again?
Biggles: out of curiosity, do most of your instructors at uni encourage or discourage team programming? It seems to be an essential skill in the "real world" but never pushed much in education, from what I've seen.
